how to make an avatar?

i'm sure this is a horribly retarded question but i wanna know how to make an avatar. check out my avatar, its freakin tiny! i am very proficient in photoshop/cs3 etc, but everytime i crop my avatar down to the restricted size stated by the forum it ends up tiny! so how do i make an avatar out of an existing picture that i already have?

Just load a large picture. It'll automatically resize to the maximum allowed size.

it will automatically resize the avatar picture for you.

if you had the signature picture, that is when you will have to be within the 600 x 150.

if your proficient in Photoshop then do a "save for web" and adjust to proper size and make it a gif/jpeg...
