Anyone have any experience with these tires? I am trying to wrap the RPF1's i'm going to get in something nice. I know a 225 would be ideal but they don't make a 225/45/16 (from what I can find from Falken's website)

So, any other 'better' suggestions for around the same price at about $130/tire?

What are you using this wheel set for? daily? the tread rating is pretty low on them and unless you can frequently afford to replace them or you track your car every day I'm not sure its hte best idea.

Dont get me wrong pretty awesome tires but not sure how ideal they are for you

Yes I was concerned about the life of them as well, I don't do anything on the track yet, although I soon hope to at least auto x. I live in OH, so I will only have them on my car for 4 or 5 months out of the year most likely.

I want the best of both worlds I guess, cause it is my DD.

I mean before the price went up I bought nitto neo gens. They do pretty okay. I autocross but im still so new there is much improvement to be made in the driver before the tires.

I'm sure someone else with have other suggestions

I forget what neo gens cost now but you could look into it. You lowered at all?

Im in PA so I know all about the few months a year thing

Haha yes, weather sucks.

Yes, I agree with the statement about drivers skill. I should probably not worry about having the best set up right now and get something more sensible.

I am dropped 1 inch all around on the A-Spec kit. Handles really good with the stock wheels on and a stock alignment as it is. Maybe the lower end Falken's is what I'll shoot for, I can use those in colder and wetter times of the year like spring and fall, too.

Care to elaborate where? And you're sure it's in those sizes? They may START at that price and go up..

if you have discount tire company and a sister company like evans tires you can go back and forth with them all day saying hey they said they can sell me for this much. over an over again. it's how i buy tires.
not too sure on the sizes but if anything go bigger or smaller. not gonna make any difference really.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass but size definitely does matter when it comes to cost of a tire. The 615k's start from 90ish and go up to 400 depending on size, PER tire.

yeah totally i didn't mean cost.
I ment drivability.
If you get 215's you certainly won't feel a difference.

hahaha
but just haggle. I do it with up to 5 tire sellers at a time.
I can usually knock off a good $30-$40 off each tire plus free install, balance, and warranty.
I love buying tires haha.

Well I'm not too concerned with the additional costs of things like an alignment, mounting, and balancing and what not because fortunately, I have a friend that works in a dealership that can do that for me for a very very small price, so it's just the cost of the actual tires that I am concerned about.

Also, good thing about a friend or yourself doing those things, it gets done right by someone who cares lol

If i ever take my car anywhere i always watch everything they do.
but it really don't matter to me like i said i can usually get them to do all that for free anyways.

on a side note
I JUST HIT 400 POSTS!!!!

When I buy tires, I search for the cheapest price online and go to Discount Tire Com. and price match. Sometimes, they ask about the shipping price, but I tell them that the shipping is waved because of special deal for buying a set; worked everytime. FYI, my most recent set I bought from them, I paid $340 including tax and installation with size 225/50/16, Falken Azenis. I guess 45 series may be bit more???

Thanks for all the info guys!
I think I am going to get something a bit cheaper and with a better tread life, since it is my only car and I do DD it.

I can say, I have ridden in some cars with these tires, and they are fantastic tires, very grippy, but like everyone is saying, my friends have gotten MAYBE 30k out of them with mostly daily driving and they are headed toward the wear markers.

As stated above, look into BF Goodrich GForce sports or GForce ASX (if you have some bad weather) I've had those tires on multiple cars and they are great tires and last quite awhile with a good alignment.

There's a set of 16x8 +38 RPF1's 70 miles away from my house for sale I think I'm going to go pick up this weekend.

500-550 for the set, pretty excited! Now I gotta figure out my rubber situation..

I'm thinking about a Falken Ziex 512, 225/50/16

Found this in the Wheel/Tire thread. Listed as: 16x8 +38, 205/50.. Hmm... 205? Doesn't look like it to me.

I actually have the 512's on the front of my MR2 right now, they are pretty good tires. My dad has the ZE 912's all around on his MR2 and honestly, they are much better in both wet and dry conditions. He's also got 25k+ on them and they have plenty of tread left. This is his daily driver.

Why don't they look like 205's?
They do to me :/

Oh and for tread life
Out of the Falken tires
2 tire dealers I talked to said that the Falken 912's are the only one that they have seen stand up to their estimated life span.
Compared to the 512's and 502's.

I have the 912's on my stockies. 205/55/15.

The 512's are only good for stretching as they don't have a heavily reinforced side-wall.

It's been 8 months, no signs of wearing.
With -1.3 front, and -2.6 rear.

It's hard to tell in the picture, but to me, it looks like they aren't very stretched, do they appear stretched to you? I was under the impression that 225's would sit about flush, those almost appear to be bulging. Like I said, I don't know, it's hard for me to tell through that pic. :(

The side walls in the pic seem to fall in towards the center of the rim SLIGHTLY.
They don't bulge.
I only say this cause I have 16x8 wheels wrapped in 205's so I'm a bit more familiar with that size.

But yeah, they don't beef out like a 225 or 235 would.

So a 215/45-50/16 would be ideal? Now I just have to settle on which tire.
I appreciate your input greatly, Patrick.

Well it's all what you prefer.
I had 215/45 on my 17's
and If were to go again on 16x8's in a similar tire size I'd do 205/50.

BUT, because they are rpf1's
I honestly would get a beefier tire.
225 or 235.

Alright, I found some of the Falken ZE-912's in 225/50/16 for $78 a piece. Think that's a solid choice?

yeh their 205/50/16 on 502 ziex. they will fit if u put 225/45 but u might have some problems having the inner rim rubbing on the rear LCA.

Depending on what your weather and road conditions are, I say yes.
They are a solid tire for DD.
They are affordable and have a good life span.

I've heard good things about the Achilles ATR sport.
They are a budget tire
Has good milage rating
more aggressive look than the 912's.
But I don't know how well they stand by their milage rating.

I would use the wheels for, at most, 7 or maybe only a better part of 6 months out of the year, I will throw the stockies on for the rest of the time.

I see.. Hmm..

I'm only dropped 1 inch with the a-spec kit, I plan on running 1.5 camber in the front, and .75 in the rear.. Think I'll still have a problem with a 225/50?
