Nope. I'm bettin' no galling. Pretty sure the cam galling issue was all early 02 models. :mbiggrin:

I'm betting that it's like mine... bad timing threw off the valves and now you dropped one... GO!

So I need to change my vote;
got the valve cover off right now to adjust the timing, sounded like #1 and #3 had gotten a little out of whack.
I've had the cover off for adjustments in the past, and galling was never an issue...until now. WTF?! Both #1 AND #3 have some serious galling going on the exhaust side!!!! Seriously, I'm at a loss! Between the last time I adjusted valve clearance and this time, nothing has changed with my regular maintenance. Same oil brand/weight, filters, etc. Until just recently, I'd not even heard signs that any valves were out of whack. (The noise started bein noticeable last week, though it may have been hiding under the normal sound of noisy ass fuel injectors for a little while before that).
But...yeah, serious, serious galling goin' on on my exhaust lobes, and it appears to have all happened in the last ~40,000-50,000 miles.
WTF?

i thought you basically said you haven't changed your oil in 50k. lol. maybe you got an early 03 model, with leftover 02 cams.

LOL noooooo not what I meant!
Adjusted valve clearances about 50k ago, oil many times in between lol.
I'm just kinda surprised, because the times I've had the cover off before, I'd looked for galling and never found any. Suppose maybe the last time round the signs were just subtle, but that shit is wrecked now! :mcry:
Sucks, been super proud of this little car breaking 200k, and then it bites me in the ass LOL.
Guess I gotta source an exhaust cam!

EDIT: Oh, and you could be right. Purchased off the lot in April `03, and I know it had been sitting there a couple months, so could be I wound up with some late `02 cams in there. Just can't believe it took this long to show! :shrug:

I'm not gunna lie, 1gr8ep3 can vouche, my #4 was galled. looks like any other galled exhaust lobe. u all lose.

def not selling the motor now. its such a piece, i think it ran so bulletproof-like because it cant come apart for shit. we had a 2foot breaker on the crank pulley and couldn't get it off. all the sensors are like, superglued into the fittings. its kind of amazing.
