View Full Version : Genuine Mugen pedal rust?

Has anyone with genuine Mugen pedals that live in areas that receive salt treatments had them rust? I have some surface rusting inside the "gritty" areas on the clutch and brake, as well as light surface rusting on the bottom of the pedal. Quite annoying! I paid over $200 USD for these things only 6 months ago.

I haven't actually taken them off to inspect fully, but I have cleaned them quite thoroughly throughout the year with my steam cleaner to keep the crap out of them so this specifically wouldn't happen. :meek:

I bought them from King Motorsports. I know there's nothing on Google about them rusting up.

wow...I guess you would have been better off with the replicas...But damn, for that much we'd expect it not to rust.

But I had a similar situation with the neo chrome project kics r40 extended lug nuts too...eventually the hole on the outer lug started to rust...With the money spent on name brand I could have got bought something cheaper if I knew it was going to rust.

Exactly! I would've just bought replicas and wrapped them in plastic for the winter or something or just used my stock pedals. I've e-mailed King Motorsports, lets see what they say. If they won't budge on a replacement then I'll have to take them off and clean them with a steel brush or something.

Authentic mugen pedal covers are cast aluminum and as you know aluminum doesn't rust

Also the real mugen ones have mugen and the symbol side by side not over top of each other

If you look at the pic of the real ones you can see the better Quality, the edges are rounded, the spun aluminum in the center is the same color as the rest of the pedal, and they are shinny not dull like the fakes.

Guys, these are real. I bought them directly from King Motorsports.

Here's the evidence of corrosion, these are AFTER I've cleaned them up too. Seems more prevalent on the clutch than gas pedal:

Aluminum doesn't rust so that really looks more like it is rust from the steel that the pedal is attatched to. A bit of aluminum polish should take that right off. How is MUGEN and the symbol on the front?

The mugen symbol is fine. It is completely flat, I can't even feel it with my fingers.

you know what it could be? the actual pedal is self is just steel, so some of the salt water could come in and leak in behind the pedal and cause the rust. I replaced the hardwear on my strutkings last week and the back of the pedals looked similar, it was from the rust on the actual pedal.

Thanks for the help guys. I cleaned the pedals a few times tonight, and then hit it with my dremel and some polish that I usually use for watches. Cleaned it up very nicely - now to take care of this corrosion on the actual pedals in my car and wrap them up so it doesn't happen again next winter.
