Well, was driving normally.. and all of a sudden this sudden rattling sound was coming from the engine.. engine was dying out a bit and then stalled.
Tried to restart and a loud rattling sound from the engine.. I kept my foot on the clutch to make sure it wasn't a transmission problem.
Now it'll run for a few secs then stall.
Got it towed to my garage.. no check engine light and will only have the car looked at tomorrow.

FML!
:'(
60,000 miles.. wtf

Did you check all the basic things? Oil / Fluids?? Plus let us know know when you get it inspected with a mechanic.

:bump: for more opinions / help on his problem!

i had a similar problem with a b16 a few years ago and it ended up being a thrown rod bearing :(

Remembered that I had recently filled it up with some 'second hand gas' and accidentally put it in a gas container with some ice in the bottom.
Gas probably melted the ice and the gas was probably then mixed with water and this is probably what would cause this.

FUCK SAKES.

That sucks man, you've run into alot of problems with that car. She's given you alot of hell. Keep us posted on the issue... I'm curious about the rattling

Had a rattling problem, and as it turned out the idle pulley's center melted. Replaced it along with a new serpentine belt, and runs like new.

were you filming something while this happened? i only ask bc of your previous thread: 'my ep sounds good' (http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?61225)

on a more serious note, hope everything works out for you. it breaks you heart when you see your car being towed or put onto a flat bed. good luck

a rattle noise can be heard from the head if you have no oil pressure. wich is not good. check oil level. step1 if there is oil it might be the oil pump? if you have ever ran an engine without oil you will know the sound it should make. normallly if either of these are the problem your motor would seize or simply stall due to lack of oil pressure. it may start and run again but not for long.

ep_2_envy..
Would it make like a squeeling noise from the inner engine area..
What would cause no oil pressure all of a sudden like that?
Oil level is fine..

Its still at the mechanics waiting a diagnoses.

If the engine is messed up..

What am I looking at, money wise.. for a better engine?

k20a3 engines are cheap, i remember i called a junkyard looking for a k24 and they had a k20a3 for $400, no one wants a k20a3 so they wont be a lot of money

Any other better engines I could put in it ?

k24a2

but to run another engine your gonna need kpro

So engine's cost
+ $1,000 for kpro
+ Labour.

Might as well buy a new car?

I'm not intelligent enough to do an engine swap I am sure.

Mechanic said that the Idler pulley bearing has seized and the engine won't even turn over anymore?
To me it seems like something broke inside of it.

It has never made any noise before or anything but just decides to seize on its own yesterday?
wtf.

Pulley's bearing snapped and seized right up.. that was the main problem.
cost me $60 to fix it.

Congrats on finding out the problem... And... I figured out you don't have to be a genious to swap out... I just did my first swap without any help and so far so good. :-)
Goodluck with your ride.

Bummer, When my Idler pulley went, i left the car on the side of the road. Walked to autozone, got a new belt, walked to advanced autoparts got a new pulley, went to harbor freight, got a wrench set, replaced the pulley, the belt and drove home. All in under 2 hours.

When you say idler pulley, are we talking about the auto tensioner pulley? Or am i just on the wrong track all together?

No, the Idler pulley is there only so the belt has a correct rout around all the other pulleys. It is the pulley on the very top, it is small and has nothing behind it. Cars with Fluid power steering like the RSX do not have Idler pulleys, They have a Power steering Pump in it's place. People who convert their RSX to Electric assist Power Steering (EPS) must replace the Power steering pump with an Idler Pulley from an EP.

The insufficient design of the existing idler bracket is the main cause for the bearing failures, the idler bolts allow the idler bracket to lean outwards from the belt tension, this places asymetrical pressures on the bearings, thusly overheating and failing. I went thru two so far, but dont expect any more failures at all.....tXr.....
