if i remember correctly honda doesnt sell just the synchros. U have to buy the whole gear kit which includes the synchros

you can kinda finagle your way to getting synchro individually. in the k series tranny (ep/dc5/fa/fg at least..), just remember 1st and 2nd use the same size synchro/synchro ring. 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th(if applicable) use the same size synchro/synchro ring

so the 3rd gear grind everyone gets is only a syncro problem? and thats all you have to replace and its all fixed. is it beter to change them all when its all apart?

Not sure if its a syncro problem only but if your going to have the tranny apart then you might as well change them all out.....IMO just to be on the safe side

at first its syncros, then it starts eating your dog teeth. when you go to press out the shafts, the entire shaft falls out, so you might as well change the gears while your at it. there is no pressing off one gear at a time. they just fall off. you do have to press them on one at a time, cause they're splined. the syncros snug up onto the gear, except the triple cone syncros, one part snuggles up and the other 2 sit on that one.

my 2nd (actual) gear was tore up, the teeth didn't have, teeth, anymore, but it shifted fine, I'm guessing cause the actual syncro was ok. my third, was nowhere near as bad looking but shifted like ass.

anyways, to answer "how hard it is to install" - its all the same. if you can install an LSD, you can install a new 3rd gear set.

The stock synchros work fine if you perform proper maintenance and have proper driving skills.

The carbon synchroes will wear just as fast, the FAg2's carbon sysnchroes go just as quickly.

Micronite processing is the only process to the trans that really shows an increase in reliability.

Yeah sounds like a rebuild may be neccesary, how is the clutch engagement?

I'm in for some info on this as well. My 3rd always grinds if I go in at high rpms. What I really want to know is the typical labor cost for a rebuild on the ep tranny with lsd, 6th gear and a diffrent FD.

i'd like to know also...

and...here's a suggestion
try changing tranny oil to fix the grind for a little bit...
it always works for me for a little while then it the grind comes back
