So my friend is selling his 2003 EP3 with 48k miles. It has a salvaged title though (rear end collision).. hes sellin it for 3.5k is it worth it?

Go drive it and see what you think.... $3.5k for a car with only 48k could be a great deal depending on how torqued the car got when it was totalled. A test drive should tell you.

Yes do it

The only worry is that it could be a Junkyard cluster, making the miles seemingly low

Car fax and or lady legitimate inspection can give you the last recorded milage

i dont have pics of it atm but its white :) and its actually 58k miles** not 48k.. gonna try to get him down to like 3k or 3.2 as far as the test drive goes are there specific things i should look out for?

3rd gear grind, creaky steering rack/noisy suspension(although most of us suffer from this), use your common sense, if something seems not right then that's probably the case.

some others might chime in on the potential problems to look for/avoid

for sure thx whatsvtec. you guys think i should ask for a compression/leakdown test? i think i should but i'm not to sure where they do that.. can i just take it to a mechanic? or should i take it to a dealership?

as long as they car pulls fine and doesnt blow extreme amounts of blue/white smoke then there should be no need for a compression test.

Check out the back end carfully... fitment of parts, etc. It must be a salvage title for a reason!

make sure the car drives straight and doesn't have any weird sounds. if it all checks out that a pretty good deal. gl

Agreed. I've been driving behind vehicles before where they are going straight, but you can see the body looks like it's slightly pointing off to the right or left. Bandaid fixes without frame straightening is a no no.
