Where to start... rebuilding my friends 03 Civic Si

I'm contemplating on buying my friends 03 Si... I already have an 07 Si, but the 03 would be my daily driver. He doesn't know whats wrong with it, but says it needs a new motor. So here I am, in search and trying to locate a new heart for this car. Any input and feedback would be greatly appreciated... thanks

since you are in california, just swap in a k24a4 with 310cc injectors and NO bolt-ons. If you have the money, just swap in a k20a2 and either use the type-s ecu or get k-pro to get the most out of it. I suppose you could do a k24a1 instead of the k24a4, but since the a1 comes in an SUV you may or may not catch trouble for emissions.
