oil catch can questions!

Hey. I have bought the diy catch can as recommended for my ep3.

But just wondering what the valve on the botttom of it does? Its sucking in air?
And also can I install this in between my valve cover breather and intake instead?
What would the difference be?

Well i installed it in between the crankcase breather and intake.
Ive come to the conclusion the cold weather(condensation) is the reason for all this extra gunk thats flowing out.

The schraeder valve at the bottom is a drain, it works just like a tire valve, you depress the center and the residual captured oil will drain out. I would drain it about every 2-3 weeks, sometimes sooner.
