I'm looking for a direct 6spd swap with an lsd to swap in my k20a2 swapped 03 ep3. I'm also looking for a direct swap so please dont tell me to add a tsx 6th gear or an aftermarket lsd. I'M running the stock 5spd and it plain sucks. Right now I'm torn between the k20z3 6spd transmission or a JDM k20R 6spd. My question is.... which one is a direct swap without messing with drilling or wiring speed converters. I know the k20z3 6spd requires more work to work with the k20a2 but the benefits include the fact that it cheaper and has lower cruising RPM hence good mpg. The JDM K20R on the other hand is more expensive but pulls hard in all 6spds but sacrifices cruising mpg. Which one is better long term in terms of daily driver? Any help would be appreciated.

I was unaware gearing was different on the JDM trans vs the k20z3 trans vs k20a2

only the JDM trans and k20z3 have an lsd.... plus only the K20z3 has a proper cruising 6th gear (correct me if this is wrong)

There is NO DIRECT 6speed swap with or without a LSD, every 6 speed requires some type of modification/alteration etc. The Z3's 6th gear is almost identicle to the 02'-04' typeS 6th as far as the actual top end gearing, 6th + FD ratio = the same/similar. The Z3 as well as 05+ dc5s/r 6spds require a VSS convertor.

What are your goals? Im my honest opinion the only real alternative I would consider is a early typeS with the taller FD(4.3fd) with a LSD added.

You would see zero difference between any of the transmissions in first and second(other than LSD input), the differences between the trans really doesnt become evident untill 3rd gear
