Honda Announces Safety Recall Effects All 02-05 Civic SI Bumpers

Recall effects front and rear bumpers,

" President of Honda Motor Company Satoshi AOKI announced today under instruction by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a voluntary recall due to failed front and rear impact standards. Effected vehicles were manufactured between 2002 and 2005 and effect only US and Canadian models of the popular Civic SI and SIR. Impact testing performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2008 revealed defective impact bars resulting in excessive damage in low speed impacts. Under the voluntary recall local dealers will be replacing customers front and rear bumpers free of charge with Japanese domestic parts designed for the Civic Type R which was not effected by this design change recall."

Called the dealership, they said that honda sent the type R skirts with the replacement bumpers but I would have to install them since they're not covered under the recall!
