so...my paint's chipping pretty badly. it's happening on the outside, right under the driver's side and passenger side window. its the black trim, and its showing the metal underneath. i was just wondering if others have had this problem and what they've done to fix. i was thinking of just getting trim paint, sanding it down and repainting it. but the paint or whatever it is that's chipping off is pretty thick so would trim paint be the same? thanks for the help!

I just re-finished mine last week. What I did was take them off the car, took a razor blade/knife, widdled it all off and ripped all the rubberized trim off, then sanded it with 40 gritt to clean all the crap off it, then hit it with 800 gritt to get rid of the burrs from the 40 gritt. Hit it with some spraypaint, looks great now. Theres a how-to on CRSX that pretty much shows pictures of what I did/that i followed.

Or go drop $60 at the dealer for new ones.

I got the same thing here. Wow that looks like a lot of work.

it too maybe like an hour and a half to do both. It ate up an entire razor knife doing it though. But honestly, its not too bad. The stuff thats all cracking is really hard/seperating from the metal under it already, so it just shaves off in big chunks. Its the stuff lower on the trim thats still rubbery thats harder to get off.

1" wide Gaffers tape FTMFW as a quick fix.
I've put strips of it on at least a dozen other EP's.

the last picture you can see where I made a tiny mistake with the knife on the rubber trim..

but yea, cost me like $7 to do it. Supplies needed are a can of duplicolor trim paint, razor blade/razor knife and some sand paper. I had pretty much had everything already. But the best part is, doing it this way, you can make your trim peices the same colours. If you look at the first pic you can see my b-pillar is an exact match.

is it part number 72335-S5S-E01 and 72375-S5S-E01,
or number 006 and 007 under "front door lining"? just making sure.

Looks good!

I'll probably end up doing this sometime. I'll probably use something other than the Dupli-Color Trim Paint though.

I like that you did the B xb pillar plastic to match. Did you happen to do the mirror housing while you were at it? The two-tone thing drives me crazy!

A nice finish on those, but I would have sanded that lip smooth that you goobered with the knife, it was the first thing that my eye was drawn to.

how do you take those trim pieces off?

Jukka
05-31-2011, 09:03 AM
yea i know..but honestly, unless you get up close and really inspect the trim, you wont see it. That picture is only a small like inch and a half section of the entire trim piece. and the only reason i used the trim paint was because I painted the B-pillar trim and the mirror backing at the same time, so they all match up.

i don't have much time to spend on my EP with work and all, so i think i might just dish out the 70 bucks and get new ones from Honda.
