I am new to the board. I have question regarding tire size for my 17" rims. Type R uses 17X7 rims with 205/45/17 tires. I checked the forum and found most people are using 215/45/17.

My question is should I go with 205/45 or 215/45 for my 17" rims?

I check the wheel diameter here is what I got:

Stock 15" with 195/60/15 24.21"
17" with 205/45/17 24.26"
17" with 215/45/17 24.62"

Looks like 205/45/17 is the closest match to the stock wheel diameter.

Thanks in advance.

they're pretty darn close. i say go with the 215 just for the xtra width and traction.

matter of preference i think, i'd go with the 205's because it is not as tall as the 215 45 17s and almost dead on with the stock tire combo

I have 215/45/17s, not much of a difference between the two sizes.
whatever blows your hair:cool:

I am curious. Does anyone have any idea why Honda would put 205/45/17 on JDM Civic Type R instead of 215/45/17? I don't think cost is the issue since the price is pretty much the same. If the 215 out perform the 205, I am sure Honda would have chosen to use it on Type R. Would the car actually accelerate a bit slower with wider tires? Anyone know the theory on how tire width affects acceleration?

well 215/45/17 tires are going to be slightly heavier than the 205/45/17 tires, so that might slow you down a little. As for asking why honda would do that and how they would have chosen the best for the car...look at what they did us...gave us shitty tires and a 3.5 wheel gap

I think Honda went with 15" on the Si to cut cost and because they know we would toss the factory rims anyway for a set of after market rims. As for the 3.5" wheel gaps, for off-road purpose? =),

Anyway, I went ahead with 215/45/17 for the extra traction. Hopefully there won't be much power lost due to larger diameter wheels. Thanks guys for your input.

GO WITH 215s. THE HEIGHT DIFFERS BETWEEN BRANDS. NOT ALL OF 'EM ARE THE SAME HEIGHT, MATTER OF WITCH BRAND U GO WITH.
BEFORE I HAD 17" ON MY INTEG, AND I WAS USING 215/45.
