The largest that i have seen fit in the front doors are 6 1/2 inch a 6 3/4 speaker i think would be to large to fit. Are you planning on putting in a 6 3/4 inch speaker?

what thickness ring do people typically use to fit a 6.5" in the door?

1/2" to 3/4"

Anything more and you're likely to run into the door card. Can depend on the speaker's mounting profile, too.

i didnt use a spacer. i used the spacer my speakers came with(polk db651) that is like less than a cm thick

cut the hole and and drilled new screws in

yea, but I actually bought 6.75"...I think I'll require an adapter... and i'd rather not cut the door if possible.

I have Kicker KS650.2 6 3/4" components in the front doors. I tried having them use adaptors, but the metal baskets were too big for the triangular speaker openings, so I had the installer cut the openings with tin snips to make the speakers fit.
