First off what are your exact mods?

limp mode sets at 4K not 6K, sounds like something else.

The point he was trying to make is on an a3 you don't feel shit. I never feel it on my car.

x2. I think mine is the same thing. Buuuuuuuuuut I have the DOHC I-VTEC stickers on both sides of my car. j/k...

OP, what motor do you have? K20A3 motor? or something different?

If the VTEC was not engaging then it should generate a CEL.

You WILL NOT detect vtec engagement on a A3 no matter what, there is absolutely no kick etc.

Double check at what RPM you start to hit the rev limiter, 4000 rpm is the max seen if the ECU sets limp mode. Now a weak fuel pump or regulator can cause you to hit what feels like a rev limit, you could also have a set of blown/worn out plugs as well(but that should also generate a CEL).

Sorry but ur not gettin a vtec crossover on a a3. Do you have gas? I remember one time i was low on gas and punched it and it wouldnt go passed a certain RPM

Is it still the stock motor? Mine used to do that when the oil level was extremely low. Mine started to burn oil around 90k miles n it blew up around 130k. Like I said was having the same issue n that's what it was. You may also need the screen on ur vtech solinoid cleaned out. If its gunked up it can't let the proper amount of oil go threw to ur head
