I just did some research and it seem like those of us with an Si in Calif. are screwed when it comes to cats. Dammit. I just found out Honda extended warranties on cats to 150,000 miles. I'm at 165,000, but I was certainly throwing CEL lights before 150,000. Dammit it! The rest of the country can use $150 cats, but we can only but $1,200 OEM cats sold only at Honda dealers. Wtf?! Anyone else here know a way around this?

So the lesson is: If you're having problems with you Cat TAKE IT IN TO HONDA even if you're out of warranty. They'll replace it up to 150,000 miles. DAMMIT!!!!!! :mcry:

Take it to Honda anyways and tell them your situation. My friend is a Honda tech and they replace things out of warranty all the time. It's up to the dealership.

Look in the want to sell threads for a used cat. They come through every once and a while.

Yeah, this isn't the end of the world. Don't spend $1200 though, lol.

$1200 is way overpriced imo lol. i've seen then go from $35-50 at most in for sale threads all over. if worse comes to worse i'd buy a used rsx-s header/cat or a used base model rsx lol. cmon man think wisely!

Quick question. All EP3 come out of the factory with the same CAT right? Is it just the OEM EP3 cat that cost a lot or is it other Honda CATs that cost a lot? Or is it something relate to California law?

All Cats are expensive... Plus it's illegal to resell/reuse a cat even though hella people do it anyways. I would love a cat. Stupid CEL -.-

That's ridiculous. Even aftermarket Hi-flow cats that are legal in california don't even go over $400-500.

Someone isn't playing the wheeling and dealing game correctly here lol...

Does Honda still replace the CAT for 150.000 miles up to date?

This is false. Where did you hear about this? What is the direct source? Whats the dealership that advised you of this? The whole 150,000 warranty on the cat. Not so much about replacing out out of warranty.

Question: If your CAT goes bad, can't you just replace it with any CAT that will get ride of the CEL light? If you take it to smog, how will the smog guy know that it's not the correct OEM CAT and fail you for it?
