I agree that a swap may be your best option at this point. Overreving may have spun a bearing. Damage to spark plugs doesn't happen unless there's serious problems. putting in a k24a1 from a crv would be a cheap way to replace the engine and get more torque. Part out the a3 and you will likely get to recoup some of the money.

One word, Swap! I have been trying to find a k20a3 replacement for mine but it seems that its not worth it. Awaits the k20a3 to give up so I can swap to one of them k24.

I'm in the same boat as the rest; waiting for the A3 to grenade so I am "forced" to drop in a K24
K24A1 is your best bet. Most cost-effective, friendly to later mods, instant power/torque increase. Go for it!

Dont feel bad. Most Honda dealerships arent even capable of fixing your engine. They just take yours as a core engine and install a rebuilt one from the factory. Few dealerships actually allow their techs to crack open engines anymore.

k20a3 don't do well after 100k miles ... unless you drive like an old lady

I remember losing mine at 110k after the chain tensioner failed and caused bent valves

cough*BULLSHIT*cough

I'm running up on 218,000 miles on my original A3, have NEVER driven like an old lady, and that motor is still pulling strong.
Just added an ITR header to the mix in place of the Type S exhaust I was running, and will be reflashing shortly.

No reason a properly maintained K20A3 should be unreliable past 100k; that's just nonsense.

Approaching 138k and is still holding very strong. Transmission is giving in a bit but still beating the shit out of my engine wot, rev limiter at times, hard acceleration. All I do is run the usual premium gas, change the oil 3k with rp, and clean cai filter once in a while.

Probably need a clutch pretty soon. I was able to run my OEM up to about 150k, even though I romper on it a lot. LOL when I finally pulled it though, that thing was another hard shift away from just letting go :D

HOLY CRAP!!!

That's crazy man!

Until yesterday, looked like I was going to hit 218k with my original alternator.
lulz, nope!
