well guys i got a set of low mileage z3 trans internals, actually i have the whole trans, but the case is broken. Im going to be installing them in the A3's case. People on k20a said it can be done pretty easily. anyone care to shed some light on it?

I had this done for my a2 trans cause that case was also cracked. I couldn't help you but I can tell you your a3 with meth and JRSC is going to be intense

Make sure you got 08+ Z3 trans internals. The 06-07 year's 2nd gear synchro is made of glass. Ask me how I know lol..

Use your EP shift assy and buy three parts to convert it. : ) Costs less than $30.

Actually if your z3 trans has the shift assembly and all internals... you have everything you need to have reverse lock and to convert your EP shift shaft to a full on 6 speed assy.

This is what the internals would look like...

This is my EP 5 speed case with ITR main and counter shaft, with 6 speed reverse lock and 3-4/5-6 shift forks.

My EP shift shaft converted for 6 speed with reverse lock...

Pix for the shift shaft differences.

6 Speed left, 5 speed right. The trangular part is different. There is a spring that goes with it. You should also swap the metal bracket that surrounds these parts. The 6 speed part was changed to allow full throw of the shift shaft...

Damn good info Dave... havent seen that thread on there yet. Keep in mind tho, that is only if he is going to use the z3 trans case. The OP's is cracked, and hes transferring everything to his EP trans... :thumbu:

I wanted to mention too... there is a difference between electronic lockout, and mechanical lock.

You need the solenoid and the ECU/harness to control it for electronic lockout.

Swap all the mentioned parts to have mechanical lock with no solenoid.

When im shifting mine from 5th to 6th and trying to push it over into reverse, it wont do it unless i put it in either 1-4th gears first... THEN into reverse. Is yours like this too Dave? I havent seen mention of this anywhere i have searched...

My reverse engagement has always been a bit delayed. Mine only goes in if I am in neutral before shifting in. I have to get out of gear, release clutch, engage clutch, shift into reverse.

The procedure should be the same, only you wouldn't have to drill/tap the case.

Wait so what's going on here? I though I could just use my ep3 shifter arm completely now I have to take it apart too?!?! Not doing this anymore haha jk jk but I'm not 100% sure if I have the fg's shifter arm, would an Rsx-s one work?

Yep, RSX one would work perfectly. It's the better option of the two since it will bolt up to your case as is.

The parts off of any 6 speed shifter arm will work for you. But they arent neccessary unless you use the shift forks too. Otherwise you just use the EP shift arm in its entireity, and the 5 speed reverse locking arm. The 5 speed fork wont actuate the 6 speed reverse locking arm.

Ba82ep3 where are you from? Maybe I can ship you my assemblies and pay you to convert them? Unless you know someone selling a k20a2 shifter arm
