sup guys,
so i made the decision to take off the shitty megan drift spec cat, it makes me a ricer, i was wondering how people felt about a custom exhaust. i want a sound thats not loud but has a nice sound to it. also how much do you think it will cost me? i have been hearing custom exhausts are cheaper
thanks guys

You can always purchase an axle back and get a exhaust shop to fab up a mid pipe for ya. Are you boosted? I only see the full straight pipe for a turbo application. Most of the exhaust shops have mufflers that look like they came from a 95 honda. Search hard enough you can find the ep3 axle back.

I went to a weld shop and had a 2.25 pipe bent and welded and put a flowmaster 40 muffler at the end. 200 bucks. No i just need to find a stock looking tip ;) sounds good and is fairly quiet on the highway.

and also since im gonna take off my megan drift spec cat back, would it make sense to get an oem axle back and attach it to the megan mid pipe? or will it just sound shitty, it is 2.5 inch piping

you'd have to see if the OEM axleback flange mates up to the aftermarket midpipe flange. All brands are slightly different in flange design/length but perhaps you will luck out and they will mate up.

if I recall, the midpipe on the drift spec does not mate up. Another reason why Megan sells an EP3 specific midpipe. I've had both on my car. The drift spec was WAY loud and the midpipe with stock axelback was definitely tolerable. Now I am rocking a type-s midpipe with my stock axelback.

I have the megan midpipe on a spoon n1 axle back. It's loud due to the spoon axle back, but the megan midpipe which is 2.25" has a nice resonator and sounds great with the ep3 axle back.

Eww I hate welded exhaust parts, it makes a mess. When I bought my car it had a welded tenzo exhaust, dumped that exhaust so fast. They can weld a flange on the mid pipe so you bolt is up to the cat or header and the axle back.

No I don't have any sound clips, ep3 has no engine in it right now.

Hmmm last time I heard a flowmaster 40 on a 4 Banger it was on my ranger and sounded good till 2,500 rpm up then it was a pissed off weedeater sound. I had an Aero turbine 2540i on my old cavalier 2.2 ecotec with resonator inline and it sounded deep like a real import sound not that raspy rice sound. My buddy had same setup on his 02 EP and it sounded nice and deep no rasp. But was loud. I imagine if you ran like an Aero turbine 2525 or 3030 inline with a resonator it would sound nice without being too loud and no raspy rice sound. And you could run whatever tip you wanted out back
