Grinding noise coming from engine on cold start up

Pretty much just like it reads. Since it has gotten colder, when I go to start my car first thing in the morning, it starts, but I get this crazy "grinding" noise coming from the engine bay. It kinda sounds like when you go to start your car when it's already running, just not quite as loud. It'll do it for MAYBE a second, then it will run normal. And it'll never do it again for the rest of the day.
Any ideas?

Maybe the starter. Can you post a vid? Mine started to go bad last winter. It would start and make a little grind noise at the end.

Its your starter, mine in my car has been doing it for a couple years, but its not caused any problems...iirc there is a clutch in the starter that makes the noise, but im not 100% on that.

Thanks ya'll. I guess I will start keeping an eye on it. I have just been nervous since I recently had all of that motor work done.

I never did until it started getting colder. Now it does it almost every single morning. I may wait until later in the day tomorrow before I start it, just for shits and giggles.

I dunno, its weird. Ive never heard a starter make quite that noise before, but Im also not very familiar with these cars either.

Heard it on my cousin's car and he did asked me what it was. I thought it was the belt, and my car has the same problem. Only, when it's cold.

I live in Arizona and it happens every winter when it gets cold. I turn the key to start and don't let it go to fully starting. then on the 3rd turn of the ignition I let it start fully. I assuming its because of a dry start since the oil hasn't gotten to the needed areas yet? idk

Has anyone ever cleaned or re-greased to resolve this issue?

I've run into the same problem and I am wondering if I should just go ahead and replace it. From what I am reading though it sounds like its not too big of a deal it just due to the cold.

Yes, I saw this same thread somewhere and someone had taken it out and cleaned/greased it and it solved the problem.

Yeah that's what I am getting and that sounds pretty damn Loud too! Lol what about a squeaking noise right after you take off from that cold start as stated before once the car is warm it's fine. I figure that squeaking is part of the same problem.

my car makes a noise when the battery is getting low in charge, typically on a cold morning where the cranking amps aren't great... figured it would be the starter to make the noise

What I have been doing is when I go to start my car I leave it in that 2nd position for a few seconds and then crank that seems to be working for me but I still get that squeaking sound when I take off.
