so a few weeks ago my engine light came on. i havent been able to afford the extra cash to take it to honda to have them look at it for 117.50 and tell me whats wrong so ive been saving up the cash for that. well 2 days ago i start to hear a knock/ping. it starts off slow and gets faster as the rpms go up. one of my buddies who is also a civic owner says it is probably the o2 sensor that went out and is making it run lean. ive notice a slight loss of power overtime since the light came on and now im just confused. should i check the connections to the o2 sensors or replace them or what? or should i just drop the cash and take it to honda and tell them idk wtf is going on? or should i borrrow my buddies OBD2 scanner and figure out what the code is and try to fix it myself?

how many miles you have on the car?
have you changed the spark plugs?
is there oil?
you could check the o2, but just go to pepboys or autozone or kragen and get the code read for free before you go and start buying things. don't pay honda to find out your code either.

if you wanna meet me up in yuba city in the morning i could probably get that code read for you.

117 from the stealership!!! People actaully pay that. Ouch. I think you can buy a reader at autozone for that much. You'll save yourself money going to autozone. They also have all the engine codes on here.

read the code first then figure out whats wrong start from there is much more simple cheaper.

so read the codes and its a P1166 and P1298. so Primary HO2S and some other shit. ELD high input. anyways. if i swap out the o2 sensor will the pinging go away?

you could do that, still need to fix ELD problem. how many miles are on the car? any mods lately? sound system? some googling shows the ELD goes bad or stuck sometimes. its easy to replace.

last mod was the catback exhaust. before that i installed a sub and amp. and i just hit 192k miles. and what exactly is the ELD and what does it do? this one bugs the hell out of me

electronic load detector. whenever theres more electronics used its voltage drops. maybe you ran the sub the wrong way?

hmmm. i ran the power cable for the amp right off the positive battery terminal with a Alpine wire kit, then grounded it under the passenger seat. then the sub runs straight into the back. could it be because i have the sub wired in series rather than in parallel? other than that i just ordered the o2 sensor this evening. im hoping thats the problem and it makes the knock go away.

off the back speakers? if so, thats wrong. but thats all you have as a signal on a stock deck. idk if that matters though. check your eld. get the helms manual, its available in the how-to/diy section.

im gonna start looking on the Honda ISIS website. im a student in the Honda PACT program now. i just called my instructor and he said its all there for the ELD. thanks for the help guys. BTW changed the o2 sensor, lights off, but still has a knock. as far as that goes, idk what to do
