i keep getting code p0117 i know its a ect sensor low voltage i just want to know whats causes this and is there anyway to test it or is this a part u just change out?how frequently does this go bad?also my radiator fan is not coming on and my engine is not overheating it may have before i got her though but everything is good is only that. any help is appreciated.

just replace it.

11-14 in helms for replacement
11-57 in helms for troubleshooting

all you have to do is change it out, simple fix

Lol i know how to change it and stuff but i want to know what causes it to go out and why? And also why does my radiator fan not come on but my car doesnt over heat also my ect temperatures are at 395 degrees farenheit thats preaty high dont u think? Or is it normal?

because your ect sensor is out, that is why it is reading high because you need a new one. Why did it go out? sensors go bad after time, we can't give you an explanation why it went bad, just change it

def get that rechecked. a percent sign instead of a degree sign is weird. Holy heat soaked Intake Air Temp also.

the sensor is bad so it is giving the wrong reading, and you wrote percent not degrees so I don't really know what that means

junevtec

thats how it showed in the scanner in % not degrees i figured it meant degrees but my fan wasnt coming on so i wired it direct.yeah the engine felt hot in the summer when i drove it for like 20 min but not overheating or anything like that but im just gonna replace the sensor and see if it does that same shizzle again

this is weird right?

AKEP

were you just holding the gas pedal during that reading? cause that looks all fucked up lol

AKEP

oh yeah, and the low voltage is due to the high resistance, high temperature in coolant will raise the resistance in the sensor, and the ecu tells the temp by the resistance reading it gets back. the sensor must have broke inside, giving you a 300+ degree reading. if that was the case your radiator would be exploding, your block would be melting down, head gasket blown, the works. you would be out a whole engine and then some.

it probably says that on a cold stormy day too. just replace it.

this is how i got the car the fan wasnt coming on i wired it direct and reset the ecu now awaiting to see if the light comes on it does run kinda shitty like its lagging power but before it was in limp mode like it wouldnt rev over like 4000rpm

do you have kpro?

junevtec
10-19-2011, 07:19 AM
the car used to have kpro and it was removed before it was sold to me why did u ask?i have been driving for 2 days the light hasnt come on but sometimes the car feels like it has no power when it warms up its weird when its cold it runs great.

AKEP

cause its trying to compensate for 300 degree coolant. its dumping more fuel to cool the burn in the cylinders. it runs better cold because the idle bypass thingy is open (it runs off a thermal wax, not electronic) and more air with that extra fuel is making it burn better. it warms up and that bypass closes your just running rich. doesn't your AF gauge thing show you?

your ecu really does think its that hot. change your sensor man LOL.

i understand what u are saying its running in a closed loop while cold correct i dont have a air fuel ratio thingy only the temperature guage but i have been driving the car lately and i havent got the cel pop up yet.

AKEP

oh yeah that was some other thread. lol. it is in closed loop but the purpose of closed loop is to help your engine burn at stoich. theres a temp limit somewhere in the 220 range that once it goes past, it starts adding like 5% fuel or something. and i think it goes higher the hotter it gets, not sure.

right now im just worried about your fuel economy in the short term. say your coolant does start running low and the engine gets hot, you might not catch it (the ecu sure wont) with that sensor toasted. just some peace of mind.
