About to replace rotors and pads all-around and I have a few questions. I've done several brake jobs, but never replaced the Piston Seal & Piston Boot in the calipers. I've been know to over-due maintenance on my EP3 and this will be no exception. Installing new rotors, pads, new pins, pin boots, retainers, caliper bolts, bracket bolts, and hopefully new piston seals & piston boots.

How do I replace the piston seal and piston boot? What is required to accomplish this? Not sure if i need to remove or gain access to piston etc.. ?

And I'm also curious if any of the calipers are the "X" style which require them to be turned back in versus pressed back in with a clamp and so forth.

Link to diagram of the Caliper Kit I am referring to below in the diagram its item #1 - 01463-S04-V00

you should be able to pull the boot and piston out like a normal piston. you only need to take that apart if you're overhauling the caliper, which i doubt it needs. you usually only need to do that when you tear the boot somehow.

you can use the old pads and a 6" clamp to push the front pistons in, in the front. press them flush. the rear calipers just need a big flat screw driver to twist them back in. back them in till they stop.

all the other pins and misc stuff only needs to be changed if torn/corroded.

imhoIf you're bent on completly tearing the brakes apart, it might suit your needs better to just buy remanufactured type s calipers and get type s rotors instead of wasting time and money on ep3 brakes. the calipers are $80-$100 each from Acura. you can get powercoated ones from O'Reilly's for like $140 with brackets and everything. just need prop valve.

i know im not helping lol the damn caliper rebuild kit from honda is only $30. but its been on my mind, im aiming for type-s brakes when these are toast.

don't listen to me or anything, just throwing it out there.

Yeah, nothing is actually damaged or torn. Maybe it would be wise not pull the piston after all. The pads are good til next year. Now I'm leaning more towards an upgrade like Type-S Master Cylinder, Brake Booster and Prop Valve on stock rotors and calipers. I haven't heard of anyone upgrading just the MC and BB, its usually the rotors/caliper along with the MC and BB. I've done this in the past and its quite nice on stock rotors/calipers because the larger mc/bb overwhelmed the calipers/rotors since the surface area did not increase.
