is the mileage on the cluster determined by the cluster or something else? trying to figure out what mileage will show up if i put in a different cluster

the cluster holds the miles, if you change the cluster then the miles will be different

one would think that with all the advancement in technology it would be recorded someplace else... like the ECU.
