I bought my 2003 ep3 at the beginning of the year and my friend just bought me a cold air intake. It runs down in front of the front driver side tire and behind the front bumper. Yesterday i drove in the rain and i'm pretty sure the filter got wet and my car started fighting with me to drive right. i'm so new at all of this so if someone has any advice, or knows of anything that can prevent the filter from getting wet in the rain, or if it's just best i buy a new intake. i just need some help..

Its possible it did get wet. Iv never ran that type of intake for fear of that problem. If you would like to still use a aftermarket intake instead of going back stock look into a short ram intake.

by-pass valve. Get one for your CAI... or end up like me and suck up water and do a motor swap :D haha or move on to a short ram intake. Whatever floats your boat or in my case, civic hover craft X_X haha GL

CAI's are great for a couple extra hp, but for what MIGHT happen? Not worth the extra couple monies...

for the rain season, go back to stock box or sri.

If it rains a lot where you live I wouldn't recommend it. But if you do decide to use it for the best protection make sure your finder liner is good, get a by pass, and Injen hydroshield.

Or go what t_virus said to be safe

agreeed, short ram is much safer. Even an icebox if you have the money!

You just got the filter wet no biggie... Do you have a fender lining like Lemon mentioned? or you must have driven through a pretty big puddle to get it wet. I see your from SC and when it does rain it pours so for the rainy season just get you an ebay short ram then in the nicer months throw on the cai. Or like others have mentioned a bypass will help but you have to cut the intake in order to install it. If I am correct I dont think it will fit close to throttle body.

I never had a fear of drving with a CAI and I have driven through some pretty good puddles I guess I was just always mindful of what was going on.

Hope you got the answers you were looking for... Cheers

K&N Typhoon. I have them for 2 years and love it. Sounds amazing. Also engine really breaths much better, you can feel that little difference.

I run a aem cai on all my rides and never had a problem. Just remember to pickup the bypass valve or shield. Sounds much better once you snap the throttle.

U really have nothing to worry about with a Cai. Ur filter getting wet is no problem. The only way u can see engine failure is if it gets submerged in water while its sucking air. I've always had cai and in storms and snow never a problem

This is what I've ended up with after running various intakes over the years... Kinda the best of both worlds.

I've run a Fujita SRI for years and it's been great but I'm about to swap back to a stock box with the Hondata mod (hollowed out). It fills the space better and I will be able to reduce heat soak by using heat reflecting tape on the bottom of the box.

I don;t run a CAI because of the hydrolock risk, just my opinion.

Maybe check for a manufacturer that uses a heat shield with their SRI. Mishimoto makes on for my 08, and its wicked, intake temps are around 5 more degrees than ambient.

The only brand I know of that made an intake shield is Tegiwa. It's supposed to be used with the Mugen replica intake box.
