Hey guys, I've been wanting to put in a touchsceen head unit in my ep for a little while but I don't really have $500-$1k to drop on a radio so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the no name eBay brand touchscreen units or also the Brand-X units? Are they good, bad, reliable, or just a fancy paperweight? I checked out the Brand-X website and they have a pretty good sales pitch and their msrp is within the pioneer range as far as pricing but you can get their products much cheaper on ebay or amazon and they have some decent reviews on amazon i was seriously considering buy a unit but was wanting to know if anyone had had any experience with them first. I was thinking that maybe they're just a new company that hasn't established their name yet. Idk but Thanks guys

I bought this one a couple years back and havent had ANY problems with it.

not sure what prices youre seeing on ebay or wherever but I bought this one for $150 when they had a sale going on and they have a store in my area so i didnt pay shipping. just another place for you to check out I guess. or you could look for this brand elsewhere.
the only thing I wish I could change is the background/layout type stuff. not a big problem though obviously. when it boots up it displays a picture of a lexus. lol

Have you tried amazon? I bought my pioneer avh-3200dvd for 300 there. Also, the best time to buy any electronics is the slow sales period after the holidays, thats usually when I buy new tech. On a side note I also just recently purchased some alpine type-s components (front) and alpine rears for under 150 through amazon. just shop around and be patient and the deals shall come. haha good hunting!

pictures of it installed in the dash? it looks just like it does on that link... except for the cheesy beach pic.

something i thought of, and maybe other people have had this problem with double DIN headunits. because of the angle of our dash where it sits, it is sometimes difficult to see the screen and i havent seen a headunit like this that tilts down, only up, since thats the way the screen moves to eject discs.

That one looks pretty good, I didn't check to see the price in the cart by it said it was one sale. The units I was looking at were between $130 and $150 shipped so it would be in the same price range. How's the sound quality on that one tho? I mean is there a huge different between it and a $1k alpine unit? I'm not looking to win any competions haha. Like you said tho sterk, I'm really liking the fact that it's fully motorized and I can adjust the tilt to make up for glare

actually what i was saying is the way the double din touchscreens tilt to eject discs dont allow it to tilt down (like pointing towards the shifter) which would make up for glare coming in the windshield. ill see if i can get some pictures tomorrow of what i mean. idk if any other double din screens have the same problem.
other than that though, i dont have any issues. wired it to play DVDs while im driving, which makes trips so much better. i think sound quality is good although I dont have much to compare to other than regular single din headunits ive owned in the past. volume scale is 0-40 and I am almost always at the 30 mark. not sure if thats my speakers or what.

EDIT: btw, price of that one in cart is 190 +shipping

Ok, it still sounds like a descent unit. Do you have an aftermarket amps or speakers?

Not that I ran with this headunit. Just stock speakers...

i always see that dp video head unit. it is by far the cheapest piece of equipment i've ever seen in my life. its slow, ugly, and doesn't have gps (what people usually get these for + DVD) the UI is so 1980's looking. for under $500 there are name brand units that look and operate much better.

the list goes on for DVD receivers.

GPS:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158XNV770B/Sony-XNV-770BT.html?tp=20222 - $600 for a 7" touch screen and dvd/gps WITH install gear, instructions, and tech support, free shipping.

joostin had the dp video deck, i think its a huge waste of money, i mean its a "touch screen" and all that but it doesn't look good at all doing it imho. the UI reminds me of a VCR. i'd save the money (like i am currently) for a good deck. probably one with a detachable screen.

Ok, I guess I can see what your saying about the interface being a little outdated but what do you mean that's it's slow? I mean I could deal with the interface not looking quite like an apple product if it only cost $180 shipped.

imo... save your money and get a good quality one w/ a warranty.

like the Alpine INA-W910. fast boot time, awesome ipod control, great nav, awesome pixel quality w/ dvd's... etc.

it's just super laggy (if you wanna call it that) i just find it really difficult to hit buttons on the screen and waiting a few seconds for it to respond, esp if its not setting presets like its supposed to or playing dvd's and all that. just too slow for my tastes. go to your local car audio place and check it out if they have one, maybe you'll like it for $180 picked up or whatever. i found AVIC units on CL for $150 and they surpass this deck by far in quality in all aspects.

just this. especially a newer deck (like brand new ones) they looks a LOT better, smoother, and they run and boot up faster than their predecessors and do things like link up to your iphone (if you have one) and plays pandora radio and you can control it from the interface without touching your phone, all while charging it too. i mean you get what you pay for, if you just want a double din touch screen radio, by all means. thats a deal. if you can wait it out, you would really appreciate a nicer touch screen radio/dvd/gps namebrand unit.

if i could rate it like amazon or something, i'd give it 4-5 stars for price, but 3 for quality, and idk, maybe 4 stars for function, because for the money you got a radio/dvd that works for $180. but as a 7" touch screen in this day in age it just irks me that its so basic and cheap but doesn't have any of the function of established units. i mean you can get a name brand dvd deck for a little more, the gps units are the bank breakers. thats all. i just dont want you to waste you money if you buy it and aren't happy with it. thats $180 you could have put towards another deck. my personal experience with the product just wan't good. even for the price, i woudn't have personally bought it myself, if i did i would have returned it on payday and upgraded to a pioneer unit or something. thats all. im still on the stock head unit because i can't find one that i'm happy with that i can afford right now, im still saving for the latest pioneer avic (which has dropped from $1200 to $800 and i might be able to get a bigger cut in price on one too) so yeah. i'm still looking for a 5ch amp that has the power ratings i want too. lol.
