Hey guys, I've done some searching but I wanted to get some opinions first. I stored my car over the winter and replaced the air filter before I put it away. When I got it out last week, the idle was surging from 1000 to 3000 RPMs. I read the code and got vacuum leak and O2 sensor codes. The tube that goes to the top of the airbox was loose, so I fixed that and then pulled the fuse of F1 ECU. I did the idle relearn, and the idle is now steady at about 1400, much better than the previous surging. After 20 miles, the CEL came on again, and the code only says "RPM higher than expected" but I don't have the vacuum leak code any longer. I'm in college so I don't have the tools to clean the idle airflow valve (such as a dremel to cut the tamper-proof screws), so I'd like to know what I can do before trying that. Will my CEL go away if I just keep driving for a whole tank of gas since I no longer have the vacuum leak code? My engine has no modifications by the way, stock airbox. Thanks for any inputs!

Your best bet will be to use a hand saw like I did. It was like 6 bucks at OSH. But im sure it's your IACV gone bad or needs a good cleaning.

Bump for some help for this guy.

Had that same problem a long while ago when I push high rpm. Same cel codes and disabled it with scangauge2. You gonna have to clean the iac. Kinda time consuming but I think it's worth the time. Take a look here

Well, after I reset the F1 ECU fuse, I drove it 100 miles, sprayed some gumout down the intake hose, then drove it another 100 miles. CEL is off, the slight ping it had is gone, and it idles perfectly at about 850. Hopefully it stays fixed, but I appreciate the help and linking directions to cleaning the iac!

Have fun and remember to let it fully dry and read the CRSX posts. They are loaded with questions.

I had a similar problem with my ep3

I started by replacing the Map sensor (I think it was $14 at auto zone)

That took care of the iddling problem

But I did clean my throtel body, I C V and changed the gasket ( 6$ at honda )

It's been 3 months now and car has no problems .
