View Full Version : How can I get to the knock sensor? Please help!

I just got a CEL for the knock sensor on my 04 (150k). I think I just have to replace the sensor. :mfrown: Im a noob at this, can anyone provide me with step by step instructions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

That bracket was a bitch to put back on, my advice to you is to leave the top bolt loose enough to get to the sensor so it's easier to tighten back up

Thanks a lot! so from the looks of this i can get at this part from underneath the car? i was worried i would have to remove the manifold, etc.

I just replaced it this past Saturday. There isn't much room to move around with the thermostat housing and starter in the way. I used a 27mm deep socket. It would help if you have a swivel too.

thanks this is very helpful. i do have a swivel. ill tackle this project this weekend. ill keep my fingers crossed that its just the sensor and that my car doesnt have a knock. "not much room to move around" seems to be a mantra that they had when they developed this car...you almost have to have teenie tiny hands to work on this thing...just changing bulbs on the headlights makes you want to pull your hair out...

When I replaced mine I had to remove the bottom splash shield and go in from the bottom. I had to use my hands and a swivel socket to finally get it. Tore my hands up in the process but it all worked out.
