DIY: Steering Wheel Leather Cleaning

So I got pretty annoyed with the faded parts on my steering wheel, searched for a few possible fixes. The easiest I found was using a Magic Eraser to help remove some of the shine on the leather (from sweaty hands, crappy leather products, etc). I found this on another forum when searching for a fix, tried it yesterday and the results were pretty good. This is a simple and quick solution which doesn’t require much, so its worth a shot before you decide to spend more money.

Regardless of the wear on your steering wheel this is a good way to clean your steering wheel.

What you need:

- Mr Clean Magic Eraser
- Some water

Make the magic eraser damp, with a bit of water. Then work your way around your steering wheel.
Keep rising the magic eraser every now and then, but keep it damp.
Once you’re done the water will be pretty dark.

I didn’t take any “before” pictures of the steering wheel, but here’s what it looks like when you’re done.

You can still see some of the wear on my steering wheel, but its not as obvious as it was before with the rest of the steering wheel shiny and the wear being very dull.

Also did this on my buddy’s sonata and took some before and after pics:

Before:
You can see the shine.

Will try this. Thanks!

Have done this years ago with the magic eraser. My advice, use pledge to clean your interior trim parts. Unlike armor all and the latter, they have harsh dyes and acids which will over time destroy your interior, pledge is non evasive and will give your car a natural off the show room look, not a greasy shiny look and it also helps prevent dust from forming all while protecting your interior. True story folks

Edit* I DO recommend the magic eraser trick I'm stating after you do this make sure to use pledge on the surfaces

Good tip about pledge...I'll give it a shot!

* Don't over do it with the magic eraser..... the leather will start to look greyish (easily fixed).

i just tried the magic eraser on my wheel, worked great. I'm just waiting for it to dry, then I'm gonna put some leather conditioner on it.
