View Full Version : Screeching at certain pressure from front brakes

Hey all. Recently traded my aftermarket rims that came on my ep3 to a set of stockers from an Acura. Now, whenever I brake, at a certain pressure (not fully depressed, just slightly past a small depress) the brakes squeal. It didn't do this with the other rims. Is this possibly a problem a set of spacers would fix? I read somewhere that with other OEM rims a set of spacers (5mm) are needed, is this true? The caliper does look pretty close to the inner rim.

Here's a pic of the stockers. Threads always better with pics. http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/202425_10151921589440582_1035627007_o.jpg

If I do need them....anyone selling a set?

A local autozone sell 8mm spacers (set of 2) for like $10-20 but you only gonna have like 2-3 tread in the lugnuts which is not safe so than you got to get extended lug stud. Lol

Alright, I'm used to Jeeps so don't know anything about that...where would I get those and how hard are they to install?

Well, I'm not sure if it's the rims anymore. I'm just confused because it's only at a certain pressure. It's like...halfway. When I push harder, it stops. When i push light enough, it stops. It's just a certain pressure. I'm not even sure which wheel it's coming from. Would spraying some anti squeal brake stuff help maybe?

Not yet, how do I go about that?

i doubt it has anything to do with the rim, i would be more curious as it being with the brakes, maybe the pads are sticking like "los" stated or you may just need new rotors/brake pads. I had a similar scenario, at certain pressure, i would hear squealing coming from my tire/brakes. After inspection I found i needed new rear brake rotors and pads. Hope you can figure out what it is

Well, I've got to get it inspected by the end of the month so I'll ask em to take a look at them too. I just thought it was the rim since it didn't happen with the old rims.

Bringing this up from the dead, but I replaced both inner and outer brake pads today, and the sound is still occurring at a certain pressure. I don't think it's the rims, cause there's no wear on the rims. Anyone have a diagram of the brake so I can see where the dust/heat shield thing is to check it out?

Check your rear pads inner and outer. I had a similar problem and it was the rear pads.

Will do. I can just swear it's coming from the front. Would hitting on the dust shield with a screwdriver potentially clear out anything that may be in there?

Just beat the royal piss out of the dust shields. They were close. Solved the front screeching, but now I believe it's from the rear. Probably just needs new pads. I'll do that next paycheck.
