Im looking at new wheels.and im having trouble trying tp find something somewhat light. What actually classifies as a heavy rim? Both sets i have now are light. 14.5 lbs 36.6 with tire and 16 lbs 37.7 with tire. Im assuming those are light for 17s. All the other wheels ive been looking at are over 18lbs. Is that heavy for a racing replica style wheel. Or is that a normal weight alot of people are riding on?

18 lbs is probably about AVG wheel weight for 17. But if speed and acceleration is your goal, that's not a wheel weight you're going to want. 36-38 lbs for a wheel and tire seems like a really good weight.

Speed i dont care to much for.acceleration is nice though. I prefer handling. I may just have to drop a wheel size and get a bigger tire.one of my wheels is forged thats the 14 lb one.the other is cast.

Dropping a wheel size helps as well, in more ways than weight. Keeping more of the weight centered will help keep down rotational mass and improve acceleration and torque.

Yea thats what i read on here. I might try and snag some buddyclub p1 sf and just put some beefy tires on it.215 45 or 50 maybe 225 and lower it another half inch.

Go 16's if you're getting new wheels! I wish I had.

235/45r16 or bust!

235 might be to big for a 7 inch wide wheel.

Konig feathers 17x7 weigh about 16.8 lbs and the price isn't bad either. $520 shipped new on ebay for all four unless you're a big baller and have the money for something more expensive. 235's might fit on a 7" wide wheel, I have 225's on my stock 15x6 wheels. 16's would be be nice but the tire selection for 17's is so much better.

EDIT: Konig feather 16's weigh 15lbs each and are about $100 less for all four so they might be the better deal. 225/50/16 tires aren't bad

Those barely fit on a 8 rim... Also if it might make your sidewall sloppy and not as stiff.

I was thinking more along the lines of a 16x8 wheel.

Too tall of a tire for my taste. The increased OD of the tire will take away from acceleration. I like to stay right around the same OD as 195/60r15 (245/45r16, 205/45r17, 235/40r17) Makes sense to me to keep the tire size relatively the same(height, not width)
