04 ep3 k20 engine won't rev over 4k?

ok here goes. anyone with info. please help!!!!!! just started this morning. car won't rev over 4k on rpm. anything after car start to sputter. been doing a little research n someone online mention something about the vtec oil pressure switch is bad.

Check/top off your oil level and reset the CEL

Just did an oil change n ecu reset. Still won't rev over 4k. Gonna change out the vtec oil pressure switch n see what happens. Any got insight please help. Really don't want to go to mechanic n get raped. Also just regular bolt ons. Intake, header, exhaust.

Ok just finished cleaning vtec solenoid n replace vtec oil pressure switch cleared ecu n still having trouble revving pass 4k. Please help b4 I have to take car to mechanic n get raped. Please!!!!!!!!!

What was the check engine light code before you clear it? and when you said rev, do you mean reving in neutral or even when you driving?

Yes cel is on. Had advance auto check in said code was something about actuator stuck in on position. Rev in neutral n while driving. Car runs perfectly fine but when u get to 4k rpm it sputters.

Ok car is fixed now. After changing out the oil pressure switch I just had to drive the car for a good 15 mins. for the car to adapt to the new switch.

I'm having this same problem :( it revs past 4k rpm in neutral, but doesn't in any gears. also, when i turn off the car and turn it back on, it doesn't do it anymore.

This happened to me once before, two months ago, when i was 2k miles in my oil change. I changed my oil when it happened, and it was fine. Now, I'm 2k miles in my oil change again, and it's doing it again.

I'm thinking o2 sensor, oil switch....what could it be?? help me please!!!!

@tqk did it ever occur again? Cuz I just got the same problem. Random while driving on the freeway... Won't go pass 4k after reset it'll be fine then start again after a few miles.

I got the same problem awhile back. Restart the engine to reset and it kept coming back. Replaced vtec solenoid and the problem solved, no more limp mode.

No problem. It's kinda pain in the ass to install the new one and be careful don't tight too much or you ended up breaking the bolts. I happened to couple guys on here.

I had this same exact problem. I was on my way home and I started to take off from a red light and it wouldn't rev past 4k. I got it home, turned it off. Then went back out an hour later and drove it again, no problems. That was almost 10K miles ago too, weird...
