how do you keep the shift boot up with aftermarket shift knob?

what's up guys, any ephatchers know a way to keep the shift boot up when you have a aftermarket shift knob installed? i'm aware that people used the rsx shift boot adapter that they bought from an acura dealership, but unfortunately that item is discontinued. anyone know any alternative way of keeping it up? (also i don't want to use electrical tape, as i read that people did that as an alternative way, i think it'll look ghetto :tape2:). any feedback would be great, thanks !

Type R shift boot does not need anything else. It has an extra coil in the rubber that helps keep it up. It is by far the best option. Looks so much cleaner with the small chrome ring instead of the huge ring the US boot has to accommodate the OEM leather knob.

No need to buy anything, you already have an adapter. All you need to do is take apart your stock shift boot and flip the shift knob connector (chrome plastic piece).

no- but it is self explanatory. before you press the plastic console back onto your dash- put some zipties on the shift arm under the shift boot. dont cut too much of the tail off the ziptie or else it wont do anything. then just move them up the shift arm until your boot is flush with your knob. you might want to put more than 1 ziptie if you notice the boot slips down easily.

Go to a hardware store & get some rubber washers that fit (two should suffice). Your boot will hold in place & you'll be out less than $0.25.

Follow these steps.
1. Take off knob and console piece to get to the shifter.
2. Thread on nut to the shifter handle.
3. Put large washer on top of nut.
4. Place boot over washer and nut (do not reinstall center console piece yet).
5. Put similar size washer on over boot.
6. Install shift knob
7. Adjust nut to tighten knob, making it straight.
8. Once its good and tight, reisnstall console piece and your done! .25c mod and its probably the best looking out there.

i have the lower collar flipped like 303ep suggested, then also have a trimmed down axle nut from a bmx bike between the collar and the knob. looks really good. let me know if you want pics

I went to the junk yard and grabbed a shift boot grommet from a 02 eclipse. Its a 2 part rubber grommet with a plastic insert. It works like a charm.

i used electrical tape, justwound it around the shifter a few times untill it would hold up the boot
