My check engine light came on a couple days ago so I went and got it read. He said it needed a catalytic converter. The car is an 03 EP3 with 117k. How much am I gonna look at paying for it?

Find out if the code is P0420 or what it is, it could just be something else or this mechanic could just be jerking you. As far as the cat converter, brand new from the dealer they cost $900, magnaflow makes one for around $300 and used they go for anywhere between $75 to $200 but there are other alternatives like a defouler.

I know hes not jerking me. Hes a family friend and actually helped me find the car using his dealer resources. Yeah im looking into a magnaflow one or something like that, definatley not getting one from the dealership

117k sounds low for cat converter. He might not be jerking ya, but he might not be familiar with hondas. A true mechanic starts with small parts first before they expect the expensive shit next.

Not one mechanic knows everything.

Remember that this site is on just focused on performance, but that it is focused on the ep3 chassis general. Not everyone wants to be fast and furious, but more of a reliable and stock style.

If I were you try to find a local ep3 to swap some oxygen sensors and test them out by doing relearn test on the ECU so you can work them out on your problem.

Another option: JDM ITR header.

its a 4-2-1 design and has a cat. you can usually find them used for around 300. Take a look at k20a.org or club ep3 there are usually a couple for sale there.

for some reason the forum is not letting me make a new thread, i am having cel issues and could really use some help. everytime i click new thread it gives me a blank white screen, try to click contact us to mb get some help from a mod but it says server not found....

so if someone can help me figure this out that would be much appreciated.

Question most of the Race Header deletes the cat so what about the 02 sensor so are you gonna get a ENGINE Light on??

Yes, you'll most likely get cel P0420. That's why you run a defouler with a race header.
