I just find first to be a little on the short side as well. I don't know about getting faster times starting in second but I do wish Honda gave us a little more time to work with first. Gun it and you have to upshift in less than 2 or 3 seconds!

This happens to mine in 1st, it's almost like turbo lag. The only reason it does this is because you're dropping the clutch. The engine is at too low of revs to get going, you'll notice once the revs get up it takes off. Ease out on the clutch and you won't have this problem.

I kinda like 1st gear.Actually, the first 3 make me happy, even though i hate shifting to 4th at 80.......But first gear is where those pesky 99-00s get a good view of the 02 tail lights ;)

My only problem is that first gear goes by so quick! Not slow for me at all.....feather that clutch man, you'll get the hang of it.

what does it mean to feather actually? feather = depress the clutch slowly?

feathering the clutch is easing it out quickly rather than just dumping it. It does wonders with this car in first gear. I never noticed it being slow in first. My car is actually very fast in first...pulls hard, just not for long enough.

I'm not exactly sure what "feathering" or "dropping" or "dumping" the clutch means.

"Easing the clutch out quickly" seems to be a contradiction in terms.

What exactly is the proper technique for using 1st gear? Thanks for the help. I'm just not used to performance cars.
