View Full Version : DIY Cold Air Feed for OEM Airbox

Made my own custom ram air / cold air feed for the stock airbox. Definitely makes a difference in throttle response - engine responds very well in the Mid Range. I also tried routing it down by the subframe but it didn't feel as responsive. Below are some pictures - ill write up a full how-to when I have a chance!

Other mods that help with this: Hondata airbox mod, Badgeless grill from ebay. The ebay grill is a full grill (open all the way across) vs the oem grill where it's only open in 2 spots and solid the rest of the way.

I finally got around to doing mine last weekend. I used the old foglight housing and made a duct to connect to it. Runs straight from the bumper to my airbox and spoon filter.love it. I woould love to know the air temp with these setups.looks good though.

Mine pulls air from the foglight hole and its been fine in the rain and my friends dc5 had the vision air duct that pulled air through the front upper grill.his ran fine. I dont see a problem with it.

It's not right up against the grill, it's a few inches back behind the radiator

oh this is awesome i was planning on the same thing kinda but i was gonna use a velocity stack pointed to where the my stock battery used to be.
I have to make a custom arm from the manifold becasue im rocking rbc and there was no way it was gonna fit. box fits ok but need.
cant seem to find any aftermarket that will fit nor perfom better then when i had my stock air box

You should do the hondata air box mod as well... it would suit it well. Thats pretty awesome I likes it.

i feel kinda dumb im not sure how to do it. like what do i cut an what tools do i use haha
on a side note can i paint my air box? like rattle can that sucker a couple coats of black mines kinda faded.
not sure how paint would react to that kinda plastic.

Now that I look at it its already done haha. On mine when I had one I cut all the ripples out with a dremel then sanded the whole thing down so everything in the box was smooth. Now I wont lie it is a time consuming thing so choose a rainy day if you plan on doing that. And I would just make sure there is no grease on the box then paint it up it should be ok.

I'm still kinda confused with hondata mod, whats the point of the filter, does the air flow go thru the center of the filter?

The point of the hondata mod is to let more air into the box without restriction. Just google image it and it shows before and after pic.

The filter is there just like any intake system so it wont suck in dirt and debris. But when you do it, drop a k&n filter in it so I would be even less restriction.

Most ppl that did the mod are satisfy with it. I am, after taking out my v2 and putting back my gutted airbox, I can tell the difference right away. To me it's better than the Sri.

lol thanks spartan for sparing me... But yeah it pulls it through the filter and up into the intake tube, unfortunately I dont have any pics of my finished product. I cant get any because I sold it a long time ago. I also found that dikes also work really well taking off the ribs around the box.

Iike lemon said I would invest in a k&n to help with the breathing as well.

yeah before i did my swap i was using the stock air box and k&n filter an it was much better then the aem v2 sri and the aem cai i was using prior.
but now that i have rbc+karcepts+hr 70mm the stock intake arm will not fit so no im makeing my own with silicon hoses and a 4 inch intake arm

Haha yea if you aluminum heat wrap the box, it would drop the intake temp even more. It's like a cai or better and you don't have to worry about hydro locking

So it's pretty much like a small Mugen intake. My Mugen box runs up right there next to the grill. The filter covers the whole intake making the air flow greater. Like they said above, do the Hondata mod to increase air flow.

One way to fix it is you take duck tape and put it on the inside over the hole, then get some black culking silicone and go underneath the box and fill it. Same thing happend to me but I did it on purpose to have the whole box opened. Silicone worked great, after it dried I took the tape off and you couldnt even notice the box had been cut or filled.

This is a better solution cuz there's still a little wall right there after sanding down. Doing this would be a flat surface and even less restriction. It can get kinda OCD for power lol

What did you use for the hose that goes from the airbox to the grill? Im trying to figure what to do for mine. Got my box all done up with the insulation tape too.

Duct tubing from autozone works. 3inch ducting from anything should do
