I just got a set of Rota P1's for free (18x8, et48) but the center bore is 56.1 and I believe the hub for an 05 EP3 is 64.1..

Has anyone had experience machining a wheel hub or dealing with this dilemma?

I would if the hub on the wheel was too big. But the hub is too large for the wheel. I'm trying to widen the centerbore or find an alternative.

Put a 5 or 6 mm spacer on, that'll bring the wheel out past the lip on the hub - so the center bore wont matter. Measure the lip to make sure your spacer is thick enough. There are some real nice hub-centric spacers on ebay. Please don't buy the cheap universal ones. Please also make sure you have enough turns on your lugs nuts when installing your wheels (minimum of 6 full turns).

Are these a good idea?

Yeah those look good. Make sure that's thick enough. IIRC you need 6mm to clear the hub.

might be hubcentric... I've bored out the center of a set of rotas before. although it seemed to fit perfect when I was on the freeway going 75+ it would seem a little wobbely.. I tried spacers but they were too small. needed like 20mm spacers and i didnt want to have to put on a grip of extended wheel studs.
My IMO it was much easier to get rid of them for something else.

I agree with the above, just get something else if you're not bent on making them fit. IMO 18's are too big for the EP3.

I assure you that you're setting yourself up for a lot of rage
Also agree 18s are much too large

no no no no no. NO! do not use spacers to bring the wheel outside of the hub. it is not safe. either take your wheels to a machine shop, or buy something that fits your car. If you came into my shop with that junk, you'd either leave with different wheels, or leave on a flatbed. I've seen so many people who don't know what they're doing end up with ridiculously unsafe vehicles because of their "custom work"
