Holy crap! man that sucks. hope you doing better bro

My biggest thing is weakness right now. I cant walk down a flight of stairs without losing my legs. I was up under the car yesterday... i need to drop the oil pan, clean it out (make sure there are no particles from engine break in), and seal it up for the final install. By the time i got the car up in the air and got under it i was too exhausted to hold my arms up over my head. It will take time, but im getting better every day...

That K-swap looks absolutely beautiful.

Thank you! That is only a few of like a million build pix... but i definitely took my time and made the best of what i had.

Man Hope you have no more trips to the hospital... Thanks god I live in Canada I could never pay bills that big.

Oh dont worry. If it wasnt for buying and selling houses with this wonderful time of foreclosures the US is dealing with... i wouldnt have the ability to pay for them. Id have to file medical bankruptcy like everyone else. Im actually 50/50 for filing and keeping the cash this go around. :mangel:

Researching intercoolers i ran across this little gem...

http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n562/dwms73/mk4smic5_zpsf61ac9e7.jpg

... its for a Jetta.

The IC would lay flat over the transmission with the inlet/outlet facing the valve cover, the down angled inlet would attach to the turbo, and the straight outlet would attach to the TB. It seems the majority of the OEM SMIC's ive run across use hose for 'charge pipe'. I could use a piece of hard pipe for BOV fitment and hose to finish up the rest of that IC/TB charge 'pipe'. Charge pipe length total would be less than two feet.

It would also be temp controlled fan forced (to limit heat soak), or ducted to the hood, or maybe both... like i had planned with the RDX setup. Mockup and fitment would dictate that. I like the aftermarket offering a lot, but its thickness limits fan/shroud/hood ductwork space... and the OEM piece is more my speed.

I also ran across a few Supra SMIC's... but the inlet/outlet locations didnt seem to work as well.

For audio i intend to use either my Droid (internet radio) or an iPod (or anyone elses phone/iPod for that matter) as my source. Since my source will not be as clean/accurate sounding as a CD player would be, i wasnt concerned with spending a ton of coin on Class D amps and settled on Class AB amps. I tried to focus on decent efficiency ratings (S/N) for my speakers and subs to make best use out of what little power i would have (@500watts).

I ran across the DX/DS series from Kicker. Stillwater Designs was a popular choice when i was into audio as a teen, so i decided i would give both their amps and speakers a try. For subs i have two Infinity Kappa Perfect 12's but will only use one... since the DX 125.2 amp bridged is only stable to 4 ohm.

The amps are small/light, and will be easy to conceal. One will push four 6.5's (one in each door, two on the rear deck), and the other will push the sub. Im custom wiring the Y input harness, and it will be concealed in a 4 door chassis armrest when it isnt used. I scooped up Streetwires for power and speaker connections.

I also picked up an alarm (CodeAlarm), primarily for keyless entry since the EJ1 spends 95% of its alone time in a garage... but i did scoop up a glass breakage sensor and a microwave sensor for additional protection. Since it is a security addition... details and install info will be limited. lol But i am looking forward to getting wrapped up in the wiring harness again... NOT.

on k20A there was a guy from australia that did a W2A chamber style one on a red EG i believe, and that was pretty awesome, but his advantage was that the car was RHD and he was able to do alot more on the left side of the car with no BMC or res there.

I will, just havent gotten that far yet. My only knowledge with W2A is a friend that used one in a Plymouth minivan he boosted. Retarded project... but funny as hell winning races with two kegs and a van full of people. lol Im also assuming they are all aftermarket too... so that will have to weigh into the equation.

how were you planning on mounting the rdx intercooler?

I planned to do it the same way as i mentioned above... that way i didnt have to figure a way to use the RDX IM and TB. I just never got that far with it before i had to get rid of the RDX...

Second Crutchfield package came in. Im stoked. I found the rear decklid, but either chucked or misplaced the front door 'seals' (plastic OEM baskets for installing the speakers), so i gotta order them from Honda along with two subframe bolts that i apparently forgot to TQ in place. Time to get to work...

Ill also be updating the first post with pix from the initial build. Im going out now to try and get a decent vid. I dunno how im gonna do it but ill try... lol

Got the vid done. Its at the bottom of the first post. Its part throttle 3rd gear roll at 3krpm, WOT 4-6th. I tried a 1-4 vid but there was just no way for me to hold onto the phone and safely handle the car, i dropped it 6 times trying lol.

And yes, shell peg the limiter in 6th, but that road is fairly bumpy... thanks AL roadworkers. lol

Is that the box I gave you? LOL

Ya man, very soon ill be building a custom ported box for the "New" Type X ill be repurchasing, probably a 2 cu ft setup, going for a 28-32 hz port, I miss my type x, the type R just doesnt have that "Quality" sound i like. Hey ill be redoing my interior speakers too if you want the Infinity kappas components I got, the 6.5's ill ship them to you if you want em.

BTW, what deck do you plan on running? Or you going to make the factory radio "Better" like you seem to know how to do to everything lol.

Yep yep... nothin like a hand me down! LOL I just redid the terminals since they were stripped out. If you wanna pass them Kappas my way i aint gonna say no. This will be the first time i DIDNT buy Infinity separates. Their 1" silk dome tweets are amazing!

Ill be making an amp rack/sub enclosure in the spare tire well... this is just for now so i can make use of the goods while i do work with the fiberglas.

Im gonna use my iPod or phone as my source. My under dash harness doesnt even have wiring for a radio... lol

Greddy type s (have to serch for a used one, they dont make them anymore), hks ssqv 4 (I just ordered this one), Synapse synchronic bov, Tial bov, and Turbosmart v-port

Now you just have to choose

I really like the LOOK of the Tial BOV. Its compact and could be mostly concealed on the bottom side of the charge pipe. I LOVE the sound of the HKS though.

This pic is close to what i wanna do... mostly hose for charge pipe. I refuse to use those shitty worm clamps and the hose will definitely be cut better.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44JFZ0Yz0z4

The more im reading, i think i want a BOV that responds quick. It seems to me it would be easier to tune... and more consistent. I mean, i have a short gearbox, and will be building boost quickly between each gear (considering the turbo/mani i wanna use as well). If i had a long gearbox it seems it wouldnt be as crucial. I dunno... thoughts on that?

Ive read that the direction im going can lead to tire roasting midrange with some additional top end. I can already wrap the speedo round to 6 o clock... so i dont need to much more top end. I wanna improve part throttle, out of VTEC response... and i feel it will help with fuel efficiency as well. Again, working on the package as a whole so all the pieces work well together towards the common goal.

Nah i had a passenger for sure. Theres only one stretch of road good enough and its a newer stretch of interstate comin out of downtown Mobile. 3 lanes and sparse with traffic when we did the shot. I was only over 100mph for about 30 seconds total. When i slowed down to 80mph, some Accord that was sitting at the light with us at the bottom of the ramp flew by. Apparently he thought i was racing him? lol

"Dude... you just got pulled several city blocks... not car lengths... lol"

1GR8EP3
01-01-2013, 08:48 AM

dave i found another build you might like in terms of the IC setup you looking for.. this is in an EM2 chassis so its kinda close lol

Andre... thanks man. Dude beat me to the punch dammit... lol EM2 is close... just more room between the front of the engine and the rad support. I gotta look into the water pump issue for the W2A IC. Yes... i read almost all of the thread lol

Got out the goods and started laying everything out for the audio setup. Im redoing the power wires at the fuse box so the internal fuse in the box that is used for starter protection will also protect the power wire to the amps. If the wire grounds out, the fuse blows and its OEM stealth without an added fuse block. Ill add more once the freekin rain stops...

That dont sound bad at all Dre. I mean it doesnt even sound that loud.

I got a quote from the local "tuner shop" to assemble a custom mandrel bent 3" exhaust. Dude wants $625... for MILD STEEL. No one locally has a bender... so a generic kit will be ordered and there will be a lot of scrap left when hes done. Same situation with FMIC piping. This is frustrating...

The turbo, mani, and other larger parts of the setup should be in hand in the next month (sans an intercooler setup... unless something resolves itself between now and then). It looks like im gonna have to cut into my engine harness again for turbo clearance with the firewall. YAY. More fuckin wire work.

Anyone have a suggestion for injectors? i dont think my modded 270's are gonna cut it anymore. lol

why don't you get a VRS kit, if you can weld yourself it's the easiest solution, just add your own muffler.
http://vrsexhaust.com/TUBING_KITS/HONDA_TK/honda_tk.html

as for the IC piping, i wish i could help there i go to a friend thats close to me he does awesome work. see if you can find a used IC setup on K20A.

and as for the injectors, Dan is having good results with his a3 in FIC600's, ID750's are a good shot for sure, ID1000's will def work, same for DW and FIC, and basically what i have obtained from tuners, the spray patterns in these new injectors atomize so well that problems they had in the past with them are gone and the injectors can operate more efficiently, enabling one to buy only one set of injectors in the case that you would want a slight upgrade on the turbo or so on in the future you don't have to buy injectors twice

I think i woulda cried if that happened to me with the Triumph. I hate seeing so much hard work get ruined over some simple shit. Luckily for me there hasnt been a lot of exterior work done, and replacing the fender will be easy (if i dont find a decent TITLED hatch soon).

I was actually looking for the bolts to put the block on the engine stand yesterday. lol

It needs to be bored for the pistons (87mm), and i need to find another flywheel so i can balance the rotating assembly. Other than that, everything else is coming off the engine thats in the EJ now.

The only thing i have ordered lately was a mandrel J bend and 3 bolt flanges so i can make my own 'Y' for the electric cutout. Im still going to use the k24 header>electric cutout>modified EJ midpipe>EJ axleback. Its no slouch with the cutout closed, and i dont want daily drone with larger exhaust permanently strapped to the car. With the cutout open the car will basically have an open air short length 4-1 race header (kill mode), with it closed it will be quiet and calm.

What do you want your suspension for?

Do you have some approximate corner weights?

Ba82Ep3
03-02-2013, 07:47 PM
What do you want your suspension for?

Do you have some approximate corner weights?

No corner weights yet.

My focus is in this order...

1) replace all bushings

2) replace all balljoints (already have front lower on order from Honda, but need guidance on front uppers as i would like to have quality upper arms for caster/camber adjustment with an OEM balljoint if possible)

3) see if suspension is square and true (its been hit in the front and the right rear LCA chassis mount looks as if its was drug over a curb or something and slightly tweaked. This was another reason i was considering a hatch and ditching this chassis. If the suspension isnt true than im wasting my time with whatever else i do to it.)

At this point if the chassis can be aligned and is true with new/tight OEM parts, then i will start throwing $ at the chassis itself. At this point everything i will have done to it can be removed and installed on another chassis (hatch or coupe). So no loss of $.

4) i already have a sleeve over setup with Hypercoil springs... but they need to be updated with new struts and rates for the additional weight of the added K (i know the corner weighting will help here),

Wheel and tire research is being done... looks like i can do 16x8 +30 front (im gonna have a lot of rip... so i wanna have the grip to use it) and 16x7 +30 in the back... tire size is unknown. I would like to use hollow swaybars if i could, the Hotchkis bars i had on my EP3 really impressed me. I dont know if that route is possible.

5) smaller gas tank from the econo hatch (HX i believe). One of my biggest beefs with coupes is the feel of the weight out past the rear axle (versus a hatch)... the smaller tank will help reduce that feel.

6) stitch welding the lower half of the car, meaning no added welds higher than shoulder height. A cage will be overkill (weight), and this will give me an opportunity to pull every ounce of seam sealer off the chassis.

7) chassis repaint and addition of noise dampening. This car resonates its ass off. The noise is cool for the first couple rips through the gears... i want some civility for my auditory nerves.

That vid for the Singer Porsche really hit me hard. Its ok to have a bad ass car with some Grey Poupon on the side...

Alright... scooped RPF1's (16x8 38 offset) but wanna get them on the car before i order tires. 38 offset will leave me a little play room for F/R width stagger and front brake clearance.

Been crazy busy... had two run ins with the popo in three days (one speeding ticket and the other a warning for 61 in a 40 zone), had a chance to run with some of the locals this past weekend, and drove a friends built/sleeved 13.5cr B20 to 9k (we traded cars for a lil bit).

Sooo... i forced myself to make a 3" CAI today... no more airbox... and soon, no more OE exhaust. I still need to finish it up with a 30 degree elbow to better tuck the filter, coat it, and clock the rad hose so it doesnt touch the piping... but its time for change...

http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n562/dwms73/IMG_20130401_165210_713_zps059e7c53.jpg

Hasbro

Looking good. Is the cai pipe a little shorter than on the EP? If so, what difference will it make? What do you mean by coat it? Wrap it?

Ba82Ep3
04-02-2013, 06:17 PM
Yeah its about 4 inches shorter... but i still have to add an elbow so it will be comparable in length. By coating i mean im not gonna leave it polished. Maybe some ceramic coating? I went by TDC today for them to weld the breather nipple on it and they didnt have any proper sized aluminum stock... so i picked up a kit to do it myself. Fuckers.

Todays log showed a full point leaner in AFR`s by adding the CAI (up to 7krpm)... and temps were 30+ degrees cooler than the airbox with the same ambient air temps/driving conditions. Im making adjustments now and will report back my findings.

Its clear i am at my limit with the exhaust and anything above 7krpm (and/or 40 degrees of cam advance). But its nice to know that there is more potential to be found... even with this storage box build.

My exhaust is still the OEM EJ1 catback... so it aint worth any modification. Thats soon to change though.

The KAL has needed a lot of part throttle changes. It feels almost the same as it did with the airbox, but it feels more responsive... until i hit the crossover. Big lobe gains are VERY noticeable. 40 degrees of VTC yielded gains til the exhaust chokes it out around 7k.

The CAI fuel maps look more like what im used to with previous builds. Theyre definitely smoother and have less peaks/dips than the airbox maps did. The 20 degree lo cam map has a nice peak around 2krpm where the head really starts to flow... and the pull is very noticeable there.

What part of the exhaust is choking at 7k? Would a new header be able to help at high rpm but also enhance low end power? < re. a previous conversation

Ba82Ep3

:msmile:

Im sure a new header would help... but at this point the small OEM EJ1 midpipe and muffler are the issue.

Now that ive added the CAI the engine can inhale all the cold air it wants (in theory)... but its exhaling through a straw. That is where the backpressure is coming from. If the exhaust cant easily get rid of the burnt fuel and air in the cylinder on the 4th stroke... then it begins to resist incoming air on the 1st stroke. The more you open the throttle, the greater the issue because youre expecting the engine to ingest and expel more air. So even though i have added the CAI and have increased gains... i am still not using its full potential because the exhaust is restrictive.

That is why the e cutout was so great... it opens the exhaust up and allows full potential. My issue with the cutout i had (besides the noise) was it was too close to the 02 sensor and AFR's werent stable with the cutout open, so i took it off and there is a solid pipe in its place now (Accord header, pipe, OEM EJ midpipe with resonator, OEM EJ muffler). I have the 3" pieces/flanges i need to make my own downpipe, just need to line them up and cut them so the local shop can weld them up for me. The only part i need is the OTP 3" cutout and to decide if i wanna waste time to reduce/3 bolt flange the setup to the current exhaust... or wait till i have the funds for the mandrel bent 2.5" and muffler for the new `catback`.

I dont think i can wait though... lol

Jaime... the header ended up being too long (distance from the header flange to the ground is a lot less in my car than from the header flange to the ground in a TSX or Accord). So basically i would have to mod the lower half of the header (modding the upper half would be hard to do) by removing almost 2 inches... which would add a severe kink to the tubing. Too much headache.

As far as the odometer goes, if i DO decide to drop in a single slammer and sell it at a later date... it would only be because i found a hatch i wanted and the odo out of the hatch would go into the EJ... as my entire interior would get swapped into the hatch (what would fit anyways). Too much time/money/effort has gone into getting the EJ interior where it is.

I started working on the exterior (interior is mostly done). The pinstripes on the drivers side were painted over, reinstalled, and cleared over for a previous owner. What a nightmare... almost 2mm of paint and clear there. Nothing a 3M rotary disc couldnt solve. So i buzzed it down and shot it with paint (temporarily) so it wouldnt rust. The rear bumper cover needs to be replaced, and i have to work the metal that holds it and the BC stays in place so everything gaps right. The front BC can be saved, but i need a rebar and the front BC stays for it as well. I have a TON of dings from a previous hail storm to address as well.

Im only doing what is minimally needed to get rid of the green, and to make the exterior paint prepped/look presentable, im not throwing a ton of $ into paint and bodywork. It may get plasti dipped (a local friend is pushing hard for me to try it) but odds are it will just get flat blacked after the work is done. The bay will get shot once i pull the engine to swap the shortblock. Im still looking for a hatch... and when the right one falls into my lap... the EJ will be... whatever. lol

Ba82Ep3
04-24-2013, 07:36 PM
Lookin for 92-95. Local only matters if the transportation of the car is A LOT of $$$.

My issue is i want the hatch in as good a shape as possible. I have crawled up under three thus far and said no to them because of previous damage that was greater than what i have on my EJ. Its gonna be tough to find one... but i would pay 4 or 5k for one in great condition if it was a one time owner with minimal chassis damage. Rust free/minimal is preferred too.

The biggest reason i let go of my EP was because it was hit by that SUV... its just never the same to me. I can always see the flaws in others half ass repair work... no one takes it as personal as i do. :mcry:

I was bored at home... i cut 4 inches off the length of my CAI and retuned. Midrange suffered somewhat between 2500 and 4500rpm but the top end noticeably woke up. Hmmm...

SO... i ordered a 3.5" j bend and straight length of mandrel. Im going to combine the current 3" with the 3.5" tubing and make an adjustable CAI. I always loved the way the AEM v2 performed (IAT temps the same) on my previous builds (over the AEM CAI and short ram)... so im gonna see if i can replicate its performance, but tune its length for my preferred powerband. Since it will be adjustable, it should work well for a 2.0 and 2.4 build. Pix to come...

I spent some time in the junkyard. I shouldnt have, as everytime i do i run into something i HAVE to buy to avoid losing the deal. I was lucky and found a center console in my color, and in 8/10 shape. I scooped that up, misc door clips that are outrageous through Honda, found a rear bumper cover in 9/10 shape in my color, a trunk and sunroof gasket in 9/10... and in my scrounging i stumbled across... a 99 CRV!

:meek:

$250 and i now have half of what i need to go 5 lug! It was close to closing time so i have to go back to get the goods tomorrow. Only 89k on the chassis, and hit in the rear so all the front goods are in great shape. Soooo stoked.

So my new glovebox is installed, and the center console is on its way to completion. The only thing left to finish the interior is the dash airbag delete tray. Ive been using a 94 Accord dash pocket in place of a radio delete plate. Ive been enjoying the audio setup in its rough completion, but have become frustrated with the lack of tunability i have with using either my iPod or my Droid as a source. If all music was recorded/mixed equally... it wouldnt be an issue... i guess it was only a matter of time.

So, im going to scoop up a head unit to control my amplifier pair, and sell my Infinity 12" SVC sub+enclosure... and the spare unused sub along with it. Im going to build a 4th order bandpass cab for another Infinity 12" DVC subwoofer. I dont think i updated this, but i also replaced one of my previous amps with a sub mono amp (DX 250.1) several months ago... the DVC sub will allow a 2 ohm load (the amp pushing my F/R separates currently sees a 2 ohm load/stereo). Other than that, ill only need to scoop up the kick panel separates enclosures and the entire audio install will be finalized...

... and the interior will be as OEM complete as its gonna get. :msmile:

I wonder, if in place of the four missing inches, you could add a larger diameter portion in the middle that would make up for the missing volume. You would still have the velocity of the present tube close to the motor. Maybe the larger pipe could temporarilly slide like a trombone to find the right volume?

Ba82Ep3
05-07-2013, 05:49 AM
Thats exactly my plan. :thumbu:

A silicone coupler like the one in the pic between the TB and the CAI will be slid over the 3" like a sleeve (with the edge exposed to moving air inside the CAI tapered to reduce turbulence), the 3.5" tubing will slide over that for length adjustment and held in place with a t-bolt clamp like the ones in the pic. :mwink:

It will be rough looking, but most 'protoypical' things are. Once i find the length that works best, then i can use bent piping for best fitment.

I have thought myself into a corner. I actually think i need less cam than i currently have to efficiently run this blower.

The flipped pin VTEC setup will give me a lot of air below the crossover... either in or out of boost. Since i have one valve on the VTEC lobe and the other on the secondary lobe on each side of the head for each cylinder below the crossover... im trying to shove an assload of air through the bypass out of boost. This sounds problematic... anyone care to chime in?

I can only imagine the variance of fuel ppm going into boost from part throttle... but WOT pulls from 2krpm on up should look normal, with the minimal bump at the crossover typical of flipped pin setups.

I don't know much of building k series as you know. But I was reading a Hondata article where they were saying typically when running a blower it's good to have an aggressive intake cam to let in more compressed air but use a less aggressive exhaust cam to prevent blow through.

Maybe try the setup I'll be using when I get my blower? 07 tsx intake cam k20a2 exhaust cam.

Id do more research on that cam combo you suggested. After looking at some dyno comparisons- i saw that the big tsx cam and the small rsx cam lost a good deal of power on a SC k20. My bet- its has too much intake and not enough exhaust- meaning its not getting a full fresh air charge every cycle. Id stick with what you have and focus on cooling.

See... i was looking at the larger 06/07 TSX intake cam. Ran across a cam thread on 8th Gen and started writing down what i ran across... then compared what i could find for specs on k20a.org. The more i read... and i read for hours mind you... the more i got twisted as to what would matter this time around.

I went with my current head setup for the breathability for power on the low cam around town. Of course it would make power on the hi cam. That wasnt my goal... ive never shot for dyno queen status (not knocking those who gun for that either).

So i started thinking that my current head setup could hurt my around town drive ability... since the bypass is so damn small on the JRSC. What good is a 70mm TB and CAI gonna do when its feeding a 30mm bypass port? The 30 degrees of cam advance that works so well now wont do shit then.

So then i started thinking about cam advance... turning it down (say 20 degrees)... and how lobe duration played into that as well. But i have to consider the VTEC lobe and the secondary lobe together in this... since those two lobes hold my valves open on the low cam.

So i got frustrated and got on the Ps3 and killed some zombies... argued with the X wife... then wheeled my 1/8 RC car at the track today for some long needed practice. After focusing on other shit for a while, i think...

... this man is right. Maybe even going to both k20a2 cams considering their specs?

Or i may just go ahead and pick up either a k20a2 or k20z3 head. Prolly a k20a2... i hate the damn waterport on the k20z3 head. Wait... isnt the 06/07 TSX head the better out of all of them now? Larger ports like the k20z3 and even larger valves? Id have proper VTEC and could use the cams i have now with less worry.

Speaking of cooling... i was looking at the Skunk 2 Ultra manifold for the K series earlier. Ill never have the money to do this so im just gonna toss out the idea that hit me. Maybe someone else will do it. Use the S2 manifold base. Cast a NEW SC manifold half utilizing an m90 SC... and a much larger bypass (say 55mm). There are 8 injector bosses. Hm, i wonder what we could stuff in the extra 4 bosses? Wait... compound charging you say? A turbo feeding the SC? If only i had the coin...

:mcool:

Thanks for the input guys. Please feel free to kick some ideas around. Nobody on k20.org seems to wanna toss in their two cents.

Give this a read through. It has a lot of good info on cams with a SC. It also disproves a bit of what people thought was the norm for SC builds. It will explain a bit more about what i was saying about too much intake and not enough exhaust.

Read that thread in its entirety. Thanks for the info!

So it looks like the intake cam isnt the culprit so much as the exhaust cam. Limiting VTC for intake on the low lobe/no boost considering the bypass ports size wouldnt affect the exhaust cam. But i would notice less power compared to my current NA setup on the low cam. Sounds like it kinda defeats the purpose of running the flipped pin setup. Or does it?

Bypass valve air (cruise/part throttle) would be say columns 4-7. (My setup idles at 900rpm columns 3-4, 0-5degrees cam advance, it bounces columns 3-5 sometimes and hits 10degrees advance, which i can easily change... but thats now much air there is. If i dont smooth from idle, 0-20 degrees of advance... it bucks pretty hard part throttle cruising downhill when you barely touch the gas if at all to maintain speed, jumping with the cam angle change).

I would imagine the line between bypass and boost is thin after column 7. Anyone who has datalogged with KManager can see that there is very little pedal movement needed between column 7-9/10. For NA, column 9 is most common as WOT until you hit higher RPM or have much cooler inlet temps with which it will bounce between 9 and 10. Adding boost pushes above 10... of course.

So low lobe SC bypass cruise will have less VTC advance and far less fuel (higher ignition values)... pressing to WOT low lobe will produce boost and i can increase VTC and increase fuel (decreasing ignition values). This will be fun to tune part throttle across the VTEC crossover. *sarcasm* I feel i have my work cut out for me...

Stumbled across someone mentioning the k20z1 cams were the same as the k20a ITR cams? Gonna look into this more... and compare them both to the k20z3 cams i currently have. Please add any info if found, or comment on anything ive typed!

Im not too keen on the flip pin setups- have you basically locked the rockers so that the cam is always on the larger lobe, eliminating vtec essentially, or is something else?

I wouldnt look at other cams- i personally think you have the best oem cams for a SC 2.0L after seeing how much power the 8th gen guys are making with them. We are all just trying to keep up with them lol.

Easiest shot i have from when i was assembling the head. You can see the pin between the left rocker and the center rocker locking the left valve to the VTEC lobe below the crossover, so no lost motion assembly needed to hold a floating VTEC rocker (you can somewhat see the gap between the left rocker and its cam lobe because it is locked to the center rocker on the VTEC lobe. Its hard to tell, but the left lobe will never come in contact with its dedicated cam lobe). You can clearly see the right rocker is higher than the center/left rocker as well. The right rocker rides on its dedicated lobe on the cam until the crossover... then the pins slide at the crossover locking all three together on the big lobe. This is the same on every cylinder, both intake and exhaust.

http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n562/dwms73/408662338_photobucket_1802_.jpg

Another angle... and somewhat easier to see the gap between the left rocker and its dedicated cam lobe. The VTEC lobe is close to 25 degrees here if i remember right... you can see how far the left valve spring pair (yellow outer/red inner) is compressed compared to the right spring set on its dedicated cam lobe. That is where all the additional air comes from. In case youre curious, i used k20z3 valve lash specs. .09 and .11 if i remember right. Its been a while but it is all written down in the log book.

Im convinced after all the tune time and the dyno results that this setup makes great power (NA) below the crossover, even considering i had its nuts clipped with an OEM Accord header and OEM coupe exhaust... then opening it up with the same header with the collector hogged out to match the mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust (30whp/15wtq gain). It worked very well with the ITR trans... getting around town w/o having to crack VTEC whenever i needed power.

The problem with the setup? Three lobe rockers are SO damn heavy, steady idle (of course), and AFRs were a pain to tune (below the crossover)... likely because the air isnt flowing and stable at low RPM's so the final AFR always seems to be a bit off each time i datalogged. Add weather changes and yeah... PITA. You can see it on the dyno graph all too well.

I found both dyno sheets... ill snap pix and post them tomorrow. Been meaning to anyways.

I noticed after poking around on 8th gen the numbers they made. Started thinking i should swap to 3" exhaust to be sure i can get the spent gases out of the engine... and utilize the larger EX ports. I think it will benefit me below the crossover (in boost) as well. I still have to get the engine out of the bay and that is when i will start matching the head to the RH and know for sure how much room with the RH primaries i have to play with to match the head. That will help me decide 2.5" or 3" exhaust.

Think i should scoop up an adjustable gear for the EX cam?

Been tossin around the idea of using this single fogger sniper kit. One small jet to add race fuel from a standalone tank. Maybe triggered by compressed air temp? Ideas?

I still have my OEM EP motor and fan for the radiator that mounts on the drivers side of the radiator. Id have to make an air diverter that would channel the hot air off the passenger side of the radiator to vent to the drivers side.

Still putting together the general picture of how its going to work. Will have some pixelated joy to add in a few days as well. : )

A LOT has been goin on, big changes in my life. Im still alive... if anyone cares. LOL

I have another move coming up. Im moving up to WVA. I was gonna go back to VA... but i just aint feelin the big city. I want winter snow, spring, fall, mild summers (DAMN the southern heat), and plenty of mountain curves to bang out once the EJ is in KILL mode.

Car related... im selling my KTuned race header. That coin is going towards their recently released big tube race header. Why you may ask? I have in my possession an AP2 crank (happy day at the yard!). So, all i need is custom rods, mod the crank (easy), punch the block to 87.5, and i shall have the 2.2 i always wanted. Finding a reasonably priced crank was the key. The amount i saved effectively pays for the rods.

The rotor pack for my charger is currently stripped, and ive made a plug/insert to be able to independently hone each side of the charger housing. It looks like pac-man if his mouth was this ) instead of this > . Im happy with the progress made in what little time i have had to do so.

So over the coming months ill be condensing everything Honda related i have. Some stuff i may post for sale. I still have a slew of engine and trans stuff i havent thrown out, but need to pass on.

Im moving mid December. Its retardedly hot right now and as this will be my 4th move this year... i wanna do it on my terms. Cooler weather please.

Ill be near the VA/WVA border in a town called Beckley, WVA. Plenty of mountain roads, plenty of seasonal snow, plenty of reasonably warm summer days, plenty of work.

The biggest change in my life is my GF and i are expecting. Shes in her second trimester. Ive been very hush hush about it for various reasons (my own mother didnt know until last week), but it feels like its the right time to start sharing the unexpected but good news.

New home, new life, a new chance at being a father... i have a lot to smile about these days. Im hoping the trend continues.

Im siked because i will be close to VIR again. It will be well worth the trip for some track time. Consider it motivation for me to finish this EJ.

The Accord is titled as of today, so the last issue with the X is resolved. Im... free. LOL 3 year long divorce. What a nightmare.

On that note ill be posting my JRSC up for sale. Im sure i wanna stay NA with the 2.2... slap in some DC stg3.2 cams and let it eat.

Man sucks to see it so slow.

It's rebuild time for me. Engine. Trans. Made it to 147k miles before the trans had a problem. Engine is down a little on power from being hydrolocked in 2016, but she still spins to 8500 and makes power all the way there.

The new donor is a 2000 Integra!!

Was planning on documenting the trans rebuild, engine rebuild, and show a lot of the work that I have to do to the Teg... it's an auto lol. Also share the extent of the audio system as it has grown extensively. It all has my minimalist ways attached to it... so no neon or leds... sorry guys lol.

After the Teg is swapped... the parts from the Teg will go into the Civic.... so it will have an auto B18 with AC so it will still live on as a much more comfortable DD!!
