I'm doing an online tuning, and the person doing it for me said "Based on the datalogs, I think you need to check your valve lash and make sure it's proper. Too much valve train noise." Is this something easy to do or do I have to take it to someone?

Weird ... Well yea Def post up ur results. I just don't see how the valve lash could be off. I didn't have nearly enough miles to have to get another one . But u never know it has been sitting for so long, so who know. Did u make an appointment yet?

Here's the work order so u know I'm not lying . It was done on 5/2709. Then my car was taken off insurance in late Nov. So only about 7 months of driving since the motor was ripped out, plus the ep isn't my dd , so it didnt see much driving. Then that motor sat till u bought it . Those cams have a real stock feel to em. The valve train wasn't any louder after it was done

I appreciate that and I'm not doubting you or mad for any reason, I think its a hell of a deal you gave me and I'm very happy with it. I really don't know much about train valves I just thought I could check it myself but it seems complicated and I dont want different mechanics messing with the engine I just thought since they did the work they're trustable and they know what they're doing. Just know that I'm not blaming you for anything.

I think that online tuner person isnt as good as i thought he would be... but i didnt do the valve lash instead I went to Xenocron Tuning and got it tuned and dyno... its running so smooth and it feels great.. heres the outcome

Valve lash is super easy. Its just a matter of taking a couple of nuts off the VC. Hardest part is NOT over-torqueing anything when you reinstall the VC

Assuming you have an oem hood, valve lash tolerances for the k20a3 will be right on the hood

Follow the link posted above.

Even if you dont have any tools. You can get everything you need from amazon/harbor freight for ~$25

haha yeah he must have been pretty bad if the tune was wonky, but he might have been right. on that note tho, if you let a motor sit unused you can stretch a part of the timing chain, the part against the tensioner. and having other than oem cams would be the only thing that wears out the tensioner. soo its possible he knew what he was talking about, seeing ghost knocks because of a stretched/slacking chain from a cammed motor thats been sitting a while. you can look past all that on a real dyno as you're just looking at the numbers, which will tell you whats going on before you see knocks from a knock sensor.

He was tuned by xenecron. I'm sure if there was an issue with chain slap they woupd caught it

chris would def tell you if something was wrong.. they give you a big ass sheet of shit to fill out before your tune to make sure the motor is healthy and he does a comp test before also to make sure everything is within good specs, granted you cant see valve lash from there but the motor made good power no doubt, although i have seen more from A3's with cams, this is about 20whp over where a stock motor would be when tuned
