View Full Version : Back to stock height?

So, don't know whose seen my thread on my DD clutch replacement, but I now drive a 2 hour round trip to and from work everyday...

My ep has to become a reliable dd.. (like that's a bad thing lol)

But in all seriousness, these lowering springs are killing me on these rough highways (yes all ohio's roads SUCKS ASS). What would be my best bet? Back to stock height and it ride like a caddy or invest in some coils and don't have it sitting on the ground. I'm eventually going to have to replace all my struts anyways, so if I go back to stock height I'm gonna go ahead and replace all 4.

I'm just kinda stuck in the middle :O

What would you do in my situation?

A-Spec kit would be the way to go, drop of .75" only, and nice ride quality, for what you are going. But it is up to you. I got HFP suspension and that's basically the same thing as the A-Spec kit for RSX, just a bit of modding required, there should be a thread on it, look it up and decide for yourself. I like it, not tooo high not too low, good ride quality and good handling. It's all what people really like and want, where you drive, how much you drive, what kind of roads it's driven on, and so on.

Yeah I understand what your saying. May as well just get all new struts and slap my stock springs back on, it drives me nuts lol

I second maksym, a-spec would be the best bet for a DD or if you wanna save yourself some cash, pick up a used DC5 Type-R suspension. It's pretty much the same thing as the a-spec kit.

I recently picked up some Tokico blues with Tein S springs and they are great! Nice drop and the ride is stiff and smooth. My drive to work has some high speed bumps on the freeway and so far im satisfied with the investment.

What about some Rokkors and a camber kit? And just adjust the height to my needs? They seem pretty fair priced, and I've heard good things about them.

With my progress spring now the drop is 1.8 in the front and 1.5 in the rear, and after getting back from lunch I'm almost certian my front right strut is blown. The car floats like a mofo... Great.

another option is stock springs with stiffer sway bars, energy suspension bushings....

In terms of dampening, tokico blues are just replacements for the OEM shocks. They might feel nice now but don't expect them to last too long with springs that give you more than a 1" drop. Once they start going (which will be sooner than expected) the car will handle like shit. Same thing with rokkors, if you're just looking to replace your stock shocks then go ahead and get them but don't expect some kind of handling improvement from $300 coilovers. I got my used DC5-R suspension for about $300 and I'll pick a set of those over rokkors or racelands any day...

Good point, jettech. You know, if the stock car came well set up, a large percentage of EP owners would be riding stock. A bigger rear bar, sticky tires, and a good alignement is a huge improvement. That's all you need for a very good handling street car.

My basic set up was -300 lbs., mostly in the rear (60%rear/40front) . Balances the springs very nicely, really wakes up handling and still my favorite mod. 225/50/16 Kumho XS on stock rims (which is wide for stock wheels but they also "soften" the sidewalls - good for street). CTR rear bar. A conservative camber of -1 front, -.5 rear. This all that's needed to have a very nice handling EP. Add chassis stiffeners, bushings, caster/camber parts, etc. if more precise handling is desired. When it's time to replace the struts, go with A-Specs or similar.

I'm into extreme handling but that was a great way to start. I had A-Specs for the next stage but just moved on to custom stuff.

*Damping, not dampening.

Fuck no.. your better off investing in some weed, catching a buzz, , and dealing with your current setup - If your solution is to put Rokkors on .

If your driving long distances, put your stock stuff on if you want a plush ride.

Sorry to threadjack, but I need to talk to you Hasbro. I just put these same tires on a set of Rota Slipstream wheels with BC Racing coilovers, lowered maybe 1" and I am rubbing like hell in the rear. You can PM me if you are willing to help out and we can continue the discussion there.

Stock 16x6.5 EP3 wheels are +45, I believe the 16x7 slipstreams are +40 so the difference in offset plus the 225 wide tires might be what's causing you to rub. You might need to roll the fenders and/or run at least -1 degree or more of camber

If you can, get some stock 02-04 RSX springs. The spring rates are much better

I know this topic has been beaten around but...

My left strut finally blew out... So I'm looking to purchase a set of 4 new struts TODAY.

I finally decided I'm going with KYB GR-2's. I found them on Rockauto.com for 100$ apiece! Autozone wants 167$!

So 2 front's totaled out to be 200$

The only problem is that Rockauto.com only carries AGX model for the rears..

Am I stuck just buying the rears from another company? Or can the AGX pair with the GR-2's?

Thanks!

Did you decide anything yet? I would keep them on but just be cautious of hitting potholes, easier said than done!

Just bought a full set of KYB GR-2's today! Picked them up at Rockauto.com for 360$ shipped! Not a bad deal if you ask me!

I'm currently trying to find the best spring combo to go with. Either keep my Progess's or some Tein H-techs..

Any suggestions?

Congrats on the buy. Stick with the progress springs since the spring rate is stiffer

Yeah that was the plan. I just find it hard to drop 360$ and spend all the time installing them, to know their life just got cut in half by putting them on lowering springs.

I was going to just put my stock springs back on for the time being, then invest in some coil's, but who knows..

I feel like these are harder to find than HFP suspension

So hows the ride so far? I am thinking of doing the same thing. I have K-sports coilovers on but use it also as my DD. I am unable to adjust the height since my old friend used loctite on them. What are good coilovers out there for running stock height or just about?

I replaced my blown struts with racelands. More than a year later and they still handle great. It was rocky before but that's Cuzco wheel specs were 215/45 17. I'm on 16 inch wheels and 225/50 and it rides super smooth.

Haha, sad to say they are still sitting in my garage.. Hopefully this weekend I'll get them on. It's hard while I work full time during the day, and the ole lady works nights. So that leaves me watching our daughter while she works, don't have much time to myself anymore.. Sure as hell ain't fun riding on blown struts though!

no clunking on your racelands? I am planning on getting Rokkors, I heard they were similar. How much is your drop?

Well I got the KYB's installed a couple weeks ago. I kept my progress springs :becky:

I just can't go back to 4x4 stance lol. Rides pretty good, I'm happy!

Took it straight from my house to Honda to have it aligned and I get this... Oh and they couldn't align it either, it wouldn't fit on their rack... lol

Alignment specs from Detroit tire after I had them patch my tire.
