Only thing I dislike about your car is the rims. Somethin about the neuspeed race springs w/ stock wheels that just doesnt do it for me.... Im savin up for wheels and springs at the same time. Nice color choice, very clean looking!

More to come!!! Whaddya guys think I should get first: JDM bumper covers or CP8's?

- I figured out why my Neuspeed Race springs are lower in the back that everyone elses...they were installed upside down!! $hit! I'll be going back to that speed shop and protesting until they fix it for free.

Make sure you don't get JDM bumpers man...I may be getting CP8's or some similar bronze wheel. I can't have a clone as close as Orlando! Hehehe.

when you say they're upside down, do you mean the Neuspeed logo on the coil? I think it's supposed to be like that. When I installed mine, I tried installing it with the logo right-side up and the spring would'nt fit the bottom of the strut. The spring is angled like / \ or something so installing them the other way wouldn't work

Really?! I duno what could explain why my car is lower in the back than the others I've seen on Neuspeed Race springs... Any insight anyone?

You should get the cp8's. Then get the JDM bumpers. Next month i am ordering the gc coil-overs and 18" c2's. I am also debating on weather to get the jdm bumpers or the rsx-s engine, trans, ecu. what do you think?

As far as your springs go. Do you think that maybe they put the ones that belong in the front on the rear and vice-versa. That happened to my bro once.

sweet man, tuff call about the CP8s and/or JDM bumpers, but since you mentioned the "close clone" (hehe, I am assuming you mean me) You could always one up me and get the newest Racing Harts, the CP8-R. They have a poilshed lip and come in bronze or black. I have seen the black and all I can say is YUMMY. The 17 inch variety only weighs in at and meager 12.5 pounds too so you should look those bad boys up!.

Good luck, and maybe see you sometime.

Exerpt from a vwvortex webpage:

http://www.vwvortex.com/features/project_cars/golf_18t/part_4.shtml

"We've made no secret that we want to bestow the Golf with that "could be factory" look, recently termed on the forums as "OEM+". We've noticed a trend lately of enthusiasts building cars that essentially show Volkswagen "what could be" while still keeping a foot in the reality doorway. Sure, there are cars rolling on 19-inch wheels and with low clad body kits, however they most likely will never come from the factory that way so those modifications tend to not find their way into the OEM+ scope of modification.

One easy way of determining the OEM+ mode of customization is to follow precedents set by the original manufacturer, in this case the VW Group. If a part is used on one of the many cars in their portfolio, then it's fair game and the OEM+ schema has been expanded.

To many enthusiasts pleasure, Volkswagen has begun fitment of 17-inch wheels on A-chassis cars, beginning with the Audi TT, that is now trickling down to the Jetta, GTI and New Beetle. The wheels look plenty large enough for the A-chassis cars, unless of course you've just left a show where wheels of 18 and 19-inches are the norm. Further, the 17-inch wheel setup is about as far to the edge as one can go if they do not wish to significantly affect their ride and risk compromising the flexibility of their car's ride."

ChapSchtick
02-03-2003, 11:39 AM
absolutely! OEM+, great way to explain the performance oriented but clean look we like to have. Excellent find.

"So does this mean the carbon fiber GT wing is out?" quoted from a friend, LOL, too funny!

Well I finally got my wheels and tires on. They are bronze 17x7.5 Rota Subzeros with a +45 offset. I have them on 215/40/17 Nitto NT450's. I haven't had much of a chance to drive around, but the car looks 1000 times better! I'll have some clearer pics up in a few days with different angles... Yay!

She's a beaut man, nice wheels. Quick question though, is there a center cap on them or did you leave it off? I am think about taking mine off my RH CP8s and painting the hub black so I am curious.

Again, Good job.

2fastcivic: Will do. I should be able to have a digicam available and a clean car sometime this week.

ChapSchtick: Rota's do come with center caps, but they're so so ugly. It looks like a giant bolt with a totally fake carbon fiber beneath it. I actually like these wheels without 'em. Just seems appropriate...

Thanks for the compliments. More to come!

Nice looking Ep machine CleanBlack . The Rota's look great ! I have the same 17 x 7 1/2 Subzero in bronze waiting to go on my ride . Another couple weeks and snow steelies come off . In the next couple weeks a lowering spring install .

Looking forward to seeing your latest pics !!

Did you use painted or anondized lugs ? What brand ? Does the 45 offset set the rims nicely flush with upper fender panels ?

They're gunmetal Kyokugen closed end lugnuts. I bought them through evasivemotorsports.com. You can find the open ended ones on eBay for much less, but for me it was worth it. The offset looks nice and flush with the fender. It fits perfectly with a 215/40/17 tire. I wanted to go with 45 series, but thought it would probably rub. With my Neuspeed Race drop it probably would.

Thanks for the compliment!

It's not bouncy, but you can hear the inactive coils on the race springs clanking together sometimes... I NEED shocks asap and nothing's out for our car yet!! The stock shocks are starting to get a bit creaky on me after almost 10 months of being lowered...

I woke up this morning and realized how much I hate vinyl. So, I no longer have my eyebrows. I also noticed that the bubbling didn't go away (the guy who designed them put them on) and I noticed the headlight shining through the top edge. Not good for a perfectionist like me. It was a BITCH to remove all of the adhesive.

Hey there,
Car is great! I just purchased a 2003 SI in black. Collecting tons of notes and pics before work begins. How much did the Neuspeed Race springs drop your car? Looks like a lot. Stock struts? Did you need to use a camber kit? Did you perform the work yourself? I appreciate all the info, thanks

-2.5" Front and rear...but now the Neuspeed site seems to have changed it to 2" front and rear.
-Stock struts are dying after a year of being lowered (the first few months on ground controls).
-Camber kit listed in my mods

I'd consider the MS design ones if I ever decide to hunt 'em down. I wouldn't get vinyl again though. I do like EP3 lights on a white car...they just look huge on black Si's. My car is all dark with the wheels and everything else and the headlights just stick out like a sore thumb. I wouldn't mind a set of JDM HID's with the black housing... :'(

I was going to go with the Neaspeeds Race springs but think that GC coilovers would be a better choice since, like you, I'm waiting on some quality aftermarket shocks that I won't have to modify for fit and would like to keep it dropped slightly in the mean time.

As for the comments on the OEM+ look: That couldn't have been put more clearly. Basically I believe that an "aftermarket modification" should enhance the overall performance and look of the OEM car with little or no compromise in the cars core function and form (practical, affordable and fun in the case of EP3s). Much like the M division approaches the BMWs or AMG does Mercedes, true (Honda) tuners should look to pull the potential from areas that can reasonably be and need improvement (i.e. plus size the wheels/tires, more aggressive suspension response, free up air flow). The EP3 should still look, feel and smell like an EP3 when you a have made your enhancements. Honda has given a great canvus to paint on, so lets don't use crayons on it.

Good pick on the Tein Basic set up !! Im goin to do the same or Buddy Club . The Race springs are great and the drop is significant but i cant help but think that the Tiens will be a more proper drop and of course you have some adjustability .

At current time , with Race springs , i would say that my oem shocks at front are bust !

A Tien set up ( or Buddly Club ) kills two birds with one stone at a resonable price .
