Hi guys,

Longtime member (but rare poster) here. I took my 03 Si (186k miles) to my Honda dealer today because my AC stopped blowing cold. They said that essentially my AC system had "blown up", metal had contaminated the entire AC system and quoted me 4K to repair the entire system. I already had the AC clutch/replay go out on me 3 years ago (and it was replaced).

Just wondering if I'm getting screwed by the dealer yet again.

I agree.

Ditch the current A/C system, take that 4K they quoted you and install a turbo kit...

then just roll down your windows, open up the sunroof... and hit that boost!

If you have the time and tools, just do it yourself. You'll save a lot of money.

My ac evaporator got clog and i did the labor myself and save $400. I had never done it before but if you'll kno how to work a wrench its simply and just take patients.

$4k for ac is ridiculous

Update, went to an AC specialist, the compressor did explode and needs to be replaced. Got a more reasonable quote for $1260 to replace the entire unit and flush out the system. I effing hate my Honda dealer....

EUB44, thanks for the offer, but I'm SoCal, in the Valley...definitely need AC during the summer.

yea 1260 is WAY too much still.

the dealer raped my dad a few monthes back before I could stop him.

his ac went out, they told him it was clutch and coil, so they replaced THE CLUTCH AND COIL, for $900, he could have gotten a whole new ac pump for that.

Curious to how much labor costs would be to replace an ac compressor? I already bought a re-manufactured one, and I just need it installed and my ac system recharged. Just wondering if anyone on the forum has gotten it replaced? I've heard the labor goes for around $400-500?

do it yourself, then take it to a shop to get it filled under vacuum

but dealership will charge more than 500
