so I am going to be converting to 5 lug in the next few months and I am curous what you guys experience is with wheels, I have 17" Lensos right now with 215/45's on them, I have considered going smaller for a while now but I want to hear some experiences.

what have you guys done?

I'd say its all on personal opinion, and how you use your car. If you DD it and travel quite a bit, I wouldn't sacrifice ride because it gets old quick. As much as I would love to have my ep sitting on the ground, I know I just cannot DD it like that...

I know I'm talking about suspension, but I think they both go together. Because who lowers their car on stock wheels? Or vise versa :tehe:

If I had my choice to order a set of wheels right now, they would be Type R's.

215/45/17... DD'd it for years and loved it... but i wasnt on rock hard springs either (Tein S Techs/Hotchkis sways). I think 205/45/17's would suck hard for DD though, not enough sidewall. Ive seen many an EP on 15's with meatier tires that looked great too... as mentioned, i think its a lot to do with preference. But the EP is a 'big body' compared to the older hatches... so it looks better with bigger wheels IMO. An EG/EJ on 17's (unless its a dumpt show car) looks a little meh...

yea I kind of agree, the tire cost is the only issue, I have seen alot of eps with nice looking smaller tires though, just not sure the difference in handling with meatier tires. if the handling would be better with meatier tires than I would consider doing that.

If I stay 17" though, I kind of want the same wheels, they look perfect on my car and I get a lot of compliments on it with these wheels.

they will be a pain to find in 5 lug.

anyone else notice that your speedometer is almost dead on with 215/45-17's?

its going to be dependent on 2 things. Overall tire availability and the weight of the wheel. There are reasonable choices in tire size for this car in both 17 and 16 inch so thats pretty much a non issue, but wheel weight its self can easily become a problem.

So in my opinion, if the wheel price is the same (or close enough) and the 16 is the same weight or lighter then the 17... go with the 16, as a 17" wheel will have to be significantly lighter then the 16 for it to have the same moment of inertia.

i'm on 235/45/17s and i enjoy it. the open spoked 17s make the stock brakes look tiny though. that's my only gripe

You have a bigger tire selection with 17s and you have 17" wheels... I have 16" wheels but I was searching for specific use for them. I really love them but they are 8.5"...

I normally use 215/40/17 with eibach springs, but now because of my winter setup I use the stock 16s rims with stock tires. So as being someone who drives both setup I can easily say that 16s are much softer than 17s, because of the beefy tires.

To be honest I would give from my comfort to get that look with 17s. I hate to drive my car with 16s but as I said its my winter setup. Go with 17s if you want perfect fitment ep3
