View Full Version : Length of Axles with Type R Front Control Arms

I know people have run the EP3 axles on the type r control arms, and some advise to run type r axles with the type r or type s hubs.

I don't want to go to the trouble of switching that out. So where does the length come from, is it in the spline of the axle or the shaft? In my head if I take a Type S or Type R axle and swap the outer EP3 joint on it, it would have the correct spline to go back in the hub. Only doubts I have are the length is all in the spline which I got rid of and would be back to square one.

I don't have axles in front of me but looking at other places

EP3 Driver Side Axle Compressed Length - 24"
RSX-S Driver Side Axle Compressed Length -24 9/16"
EP3 Passenger Side Axle Compressed Length - 22 7/32"
RSX-S Passenger Side Axle Compressed Length - 22 3/4"

Iffy on the type r measurements
driver side 25-1/4" — passenger side 23-3/8"

So by this logic as long as the length isn't in the outer spline I would be fine swapping joints I believe. Anybody try this?

Anybody have a picture of EP3 axles used with the control arms, just want to see how far the axle stretches out.
