I have stockies with the pro-kit. It handles a lot better and I doubt there will be any long term problems with the shocks. konis would be nice though

I am. No problem with the stock shocks, but I can't wait for some aftermarket ones. These stockies suck imo

I have sprint springs...and stock shocks....yeah they are pretty close to being dead already. I want shock, but dont want to deal with koni's, so I'll prolly go with H&R or Tein eventually.

i have mine sitting on 18's with ground control coil overs and stock shocks. my ride height in the center of the car at the CAT is 2 3/4 inches off the ground and also comptech camber kit.
i get a real smooth non bouncy ride.
i still want the tein flex system, but at 1800.00 a bit much.:D

I have Neuspeed race springs on stocks. I'm waiting to see whether or not the drop is going to look right with the wheels I'll be getting. I still can't believe that there aren't any Si specific shocks out yet!!

if you want ppl riding in back to have a smooth ride lol, no one I know claims to really "need' them "extremly" bad in front, but I am prbably going to get themin front and back when I drop my car.

does lowering the car on the stock shocks have a bad affect?

i-WERKS
01-24-2003, 09:21 AM
The camber in the front is good but the rear maybe needs a kit if it's really low.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I've heard that our suspension is the same as the CTR. If this is true then our shocks should be able to handle the drop since the CTR sits lower than our cars. I haven't had any problems with the ride quality after dropping the car. I'd like to hear what other inputs you guys may have on this.

Yesterday I was driving in the left (fast) lane 60FWY W Pomona area, a 01 Civic 4 door was just ahead of me in the carpool lane (left of me). A BIG plastic ice chest was sitting in the middle of his lane, does he swerve to avoid? NO, All I know is I see a blue ice chest traveling through the air at windshield level across four lanes of traffic moving at about 70MPH. After making my accident avoidance move, I really wished I was sitting about 1 - 1 1/2 inches lower to the ground. My car left me feeling queezy. I am going out today to find some springs for my stock shocks.

Maybe H&R Sports.

Oh well. . . . .:(

BTW that Civics front bumper was smashed. When I passed him (which I did real quick) He was pretty sad looking. could have been a FunkN 4-5 car accident.

From the experts: "If you can only afford shocks or springs, either keep saving to get both, or start with the shocks. Performance shocks alone which provide firmer bump and rebound control, and greater control over weight transfer rate, will improve handing performance more than stiffer springs alone will."

But it seems that you are more concerned about look than about performance...

EP33
02-23-2003, 12:02 PM
If it were about looks, I'd be hacking away at the factory springs. I just can't wait another 6 - ? months for Bilstein to come out with shocks.

I figure if I go against my shock morals, and install H&R springs on stock shocks, according to Murphys Law, Bilstein will have shocks available in about two weeks.

You see, I'm doing it for all that don't want Koni,Tein,etc. . . . . .:D

sorry guys this might have been answered, but after reading this and other threads I haven't gotten a clear cut answer:

Will getting aftermarket springs to lower the car hurt the stock shocks in any way? I'm thinking my mini-mini-van needs to be a little lower, but I just don't have the money to get both right now. And if I were to get just new springs - would I be able to install aftermarket shocks once I get the money? I.e. springs first, then shocks. I'm really not very car savey, but definitely willing to learn. thanks.

i got a buddy that rolls with neuspeed race springs on stock shocks for about 6 months now and his ep3 rides great. i have the ground control set up, on stock shocks as well, and i have to say that things are fine with my ride. of course aftermarket shocks would be nice, and should be picked up when the cash flow is right. but running springs for now would be an okay thing to do.

it handles corners

I have about 30,000 on my neuspeed springs w/stockshocks at 1.5 inchs

the ride is fine, but the handling isnt as good as it used to be, it rolls more around corners and if you hit a pot hole or something its like BANG BANG! It may look like ass but from a long term performance standpoint, I would of held out for a full spring/shock suspension and kept my stock height.

There's a guy on honda-tech who sells KYB shocks for older Hondas/Acuras (for $350  ). I emailed him today, he said he
hears the requests for shocks for the EP3 all the time, but that
KYB hadn't given him an ETA yet. He said he'll try them again
next week...just an FYI. $200 springs, $350 shocks and a $130
camber kit sounds like a decent alternative to Tein Basics.

H&R Sport springs dropped on stocks... Holy shit, I feel like I am going to snap the frame on some of these frickin potholes. Toronto shit roads !!! I have stock wheels right now but want 17's. Is this going to destroy my car? It's rough now on the stock wheels, with the larger rim, I really can't beleive the car will take this. Will aftermarket shocks help this BANG!!!!! problem. It stresses me out when I drive. Yes it feels good when I'm not hitting bumps. I am also feeling a slight creak as I pull up to stop signs from the front end. I am wondering If I should just raise the pig back to stock height and chill. Someone tell me good news in relation to this. Again, will the supossed KYBs help the situation? Some guys in a wheel shop tell me don't bother wasting money on after market shocks. These guys have mustangs, so they don't speak Japanese... I'm saying I don't trust them. Anyone?

zeroz52
05-17-2004, 06:14 PM
Try to avoid those big ass potholes man. I rode on my stockies with springs on my 02 civic coupe with 17" rims and 40 series tires for two years and the stock shocks are still fine. I live in Wisconsin and our roads are no better. How much was it lowered with the springs you have? The creaking noise you hear COULD be just the springs as they tend to make some "wierd" noises, mine did. People who own newer mustangs don't know shit,so don't listen to them. <-(just my opinion);)
After market shocks will most definately help your situation. Right now when you hit those potholes you are more than likely expecting your stockies to absorb that, but when you lowered it you decreased the length of possible travel on those babies and are now bottoming out on them when you go over large enough bumps or potholes. I would say that if you are REALLY woried about messing something up, return it to stock until you can afford some aftermarket shocks or a set of full coilovers (not sleeve coilovers). Hope I helped some.

Zeroz, thanks alot I feel like I am at an AA meeting getting support. Can't wait to put the new shocks on. By the way, the H&R sport springs specify a max of 2" drop depending on make. My understanding is that with our model, the drop with these springs is 1.75 front,- 1.5 rear

Hey well I Found a cause to one of my noises. The front end was acting up - Squeeking and when in revese and wheels turned left, I heard a cracking sound. I was about to raise the car becuse I thought it was destroying something. We'll guess what I found.. A frickin flashlight, I shit you not , It was jammed between the wheel well liner and the body- Inside the wheelwell. Some asshole mechanic decided to crank on the liner molding to access the area for fog lamp installtion last month. There were no batteries in the light, so I know he used it to keep it open while he worked on it. HONDA MECHANIC... can you believe it? The wheels were rubbing as I drove while turning left and especially in reverse. Now my liner is damaged. At least it was not the springs or suspension. I think I'll visit Honda later on and ask if anyone is missing their flashlight light.

Just lowered my EP w/ Neuspeed Race on stock shocks w/ Ingalls.

Ride is similar to stock except when you hit any bumps/holes...BAM! Very rough! The stock shocks are a little weak for these springs, I can feel some slight bounciness over sharp bumps or dips, but fine under normal driving. Overall the ride is great and much improved through the corners. The drop is perfect!!! Makes the EP look 100x sexier, no doubt. Highly recommended!!

Installed some Reactive brand coil overs. Fronts went in nice, but had to cut some of the coil out of the rears. Got them cheap @$250.00 CDN private sale which translates to about $160.00 USD.

i have bout 43000 miles on my stock shocks and i just dropped it on tein springs the ride is very firm and i get no noises or anything im very happy so far, i will probably just get some tokikos when they come out, but i can definitly say i will get at least another 10 - 15000 out of these shocks, and the ride is smooth as hell and if anything a bit tighter. WOuld concider expensive coilovers and have done it in the past with my ek using tein coilovers but i drive alot so i rather just switch shocks for like 500 bux then pay for 1000 coilovers when they die. If i can ever park it tho i will throw tein coilovers on it.
