The narrative that no one cares about:

This build will be started due to the failure of a rod bearing issue, motor was still salvageable, wish I could say the same for the crank.
Will not be doing a crazy build or nun like that, simple and clean, no need to blow 10k.
So with that being said subscribe, check back frequently and feel free to give input, and/or criticism. Sit back and enjoy my work.

Not about the turbo build. But where did u Mount the rear diffuser and front splitter. I want to do both. I also have a lower front h brace. Can the splitter work with it?

Sorry my new build doesnt attract u!!

Butt yea the brace wont work with it unless u ghetto rig it and just mount the splitter to your lip/bumper and it wont hold worth n eventually break.
The rear diffuser mounts to the rear bumper and the tray bolts to the gas tank straps.

Nice to see your back at it. But why rebuild the Z3? A stock k20a2 can handle 600+whp and they are plentiful. You could be up and running by the end of the week.

That's the thing its hard to come by a stock motor low miles and really don't feel like blowing another one up. Atleast this route ill be more reliable n know I can go the xtra mile with no problem

Soon after the teardown I made my decision to go through with the build, brainstormed with my tuner on what setup would suit my goal in power level and started searching for the parts I needed. Came across a deal I couldnt refuse!!

What's the rev limiter going to be set at for this bad boy

ill prolly want to keep her under 9000k right at 8800 or where ever the powerband shows drop ill settle.

On the previous tune i had the limiter set to 8800 but would always cut it around 8500, sucks that the oem tach doesnt read that high too so its just by ear

Not too long ago a pretty important package made its way to my hands, after being lost for 48 hours at the local UPS facility after a 5 day journey from its origin.
More power calls for heavier duty clutch system.

To back this up, I had that very same clutch installed not too long ago and still own it but replaced it with a sprung 6 puck from CCI. That clutch chewed up my mainshaft input splines and caused hundreds of dollars in replacement parts, plus mainshafts were on national backorder from Honda of Japan. That clutch caused me some serious ass pain.

Make sure you install that damn thing correctly and you get a pedal stop properly adjusted for it. I think the clutch is just to much for the mainshaft in general and makes too much of a shock transfer when engaging.

Then again, I was dailying my car, you won't be dailying this so what does it matter lol.

Wow man thanks for the heads up, im mainly looking to street/weekend warrior it!!

I have a buddy with his 700+ rsx and another local bud with a 700+ tsx both on twin disks, daily, street, drag it and no clutch stops and havent had issues yet.
Idk i dont want to bust my head making a clutch stop and suck at it.

Shortly after I got in contact with Ryan from AFH and he had in stock 2 GE turbo manifolds, no need for the 3-4 month wait from manufacturer. What a great opportunity to upgrade the old RBC and upgrade, not to mention he gave me a killer deal on it.
Great customer service I received from AutoFair Honda and he will now be supplying me with a bunch of parts ima need for the build, highly recommend him for any needs no matter how small nor big the order might be, he got it!!
Went ahead and threw on my fuel rail and Aeromotive A1000 fuel pressure regulator, getting ready for that fuel system. Will need new injectors and throttle body soon. :paper:

Floor mounting the shifter? Are you going to be extending the shifter to get it close to where it used to be?

I'm assuming you'll be using RSX parts to get all this done.

Today i just out of the blue decided to relocate my fuse box from the driver side headlight to the passenger headlight, it made more sense due to the way the harness grommet off the firewall. Fit better too and only will have to extend 3 clips to be complete, high beam, city light, turn signal. Now the wait for RY-WORX to come and work his magic.

Taking safety serious this time around bs aside.
For the past 3+ yrs i have been boosting, driving around everywhere w/o a reinforcement bar, how foolish of me.
Thanks to a local that spared me his due to him having a JDM rebar. Now waiting for the new FMIC to arrive this week and mount it!!

Okay so here are the upclose pix of the damages to the so called "good crank".
Member said that the scarring was rust from dried oil or so and that a simple polish would do.

Damn dude.....why didn't you seek expert advice on that?

I can easily tell that engine suffered some pretty bad crank walk...They probably had an extremely high clamping duty pressure plate (super single and twin/triple disc clutches) and were holding down the pedal to start the car causing a high dry load on the crank.

Monj, next time come to your family (us at EPhatch lol) before you make some big purchases on used stuff like that. We got a fairly nice group of peeps here that know our stuff and are more than willing to help out a fellow member.

monjarassi
11-19-2013, 11:15 PM
And i thank you, i know i messed up and went into this purchase blind folded and paid the consequence.

Something of this magnitude wont happen again.

I even inspected my z3 crank i pulled off my motor and my crank still looks way better than this type s one that i purchased.

On other news loaded the crank, flywheel and pressure plate in the rental to go drop off tomorrow morning.

Got the call i been waiting for, machine shop was done and ready to give back my stuff.
The shop met my expectations and had a fast turn around, would've been faster if the crank situation hadn't happened.
For any locals in need of machine work, no matter how big or small the job might be, i highly recommend them to you.

I had them do the following:
Bore the crank .5 over
Hot tank it
Polish & balance crankshaft (with Flywheel & PP)
Resurface flywheel

Now onto the pix!!

Very nice monj, the clutch you have can be rebuilt right? the reason why I ask is you had the pp balanced with the rotating assembly so if you change your clutch its going to throw it out of balance.

It looks great man, o and what size injectors do you have? I have the DW1000's and on e85 with a fuel return set up i was at 53% duty cycle. I have enough fuel for 550 but your shooting for 600, so just curious...

Yes the kit is rebuildable.
The machine shop just needed the flywheel and pp, my tuner also suggested just taking that. The disk I have ordered a new one, and have yet to receive it.
And yes final goal will be 600hp on e85 and Id1000cc injs. It's doable doe, the fuel part has been discussed with my tuner and we have all angles covered.

Fuel surge tank?

You only need those when participating in events that causes the fuel to move inside the fuel tank away from the fuel pumps such as high speed cornering in circuit events or drifting events where the car has extreme back and forth movement.

From what I can tell you're only drag racing so as long as you keep above half a tank of gas...

monjarassi
01-06-2014, 10:48 PM
Yes sirre also known as swirl pot.

Yea well at one point we figured out my issue when in full boost I'd lean out and hit lean cut, it was later determined that the real cause of that was my gas tank always being 1/2 tank I never really ever filled my tank up.

And since this year I want to participate in other events other than drag racing, why not take the leap and do it now.

Ah, I see.

Well then, in that case you definitely would require one of those.

For those that don't know what they do, I made a video post awhile ago on theory of operation of fuel surge tanks:

Hahahaha one request has any1 on here ever successfully removed the evap canister and vented it appropriately?

Not that I know of.

I've only seen this discussed over @ ClubRSX forums, and even they had a hard time figuring it out.

My best advice to you would be to study what race car teams do and how they properly vent fuel cells.

ALL the K-series Civic track racers I know leave the evap canister alone and keep it connected. It only weighs a couple pounds and its better to have it than not on the road.

Gosh it feels good to be back at it wrenching on the car, especially in the cold.
Removed the evap canister bs and what not and went ahead and mounted the box in its OEM bracket, need to see what fitting ima need to go buy to run the system.

Looking at the fitted stock headgasket, how would the coolant flow be affected to the head and how much of a temp increase would you see at the head because of this?

Just got my cylinder head back from the machine shop, the guys did a hell of a job on it words cant descride it.
Special thanks to my tuner, hes been such a great supporter of the last minute changes and guidance to get this motor ready and waking up this monster from its deep sleep.
Head is still stock as fawk, all OEM parts on it, nothing fancy here.

Let the assembly begin.

Don't worry about the head being stock on a robust turbo like you and I have. That's the mistake I made when I switched from an NA K24 build but kept my cylinder head that already had tons of work done to it. My power band is so narrow now and I'm missing a lot of the meat that would come before 7000 RPM's with my turbo setup. If you need more power you can increase the boost, you only need head work done once you get to super high levels HP/engine revving past 8500 when that every extra bit counts.

Should I do this head set up like you monjarassi on my stock k20a3? Or k20a2 head? This is na for now, thinking supercharger way down the line eventually just trying to get the best power na I also wanted to run an rrc manifold but wanted your opinion. Also I was told to ask you about underpannels/diffusers

id prefer you get a a2 cylinder head, so that way you dont have to run a vtec killer setup n get complicated. RRC is a great choice of manifold but a RBC can get the job done pretty well too.

Sup with it, you need info on the diffuser?

So today i redid the hoses in the fuel cage assembly, the other blue ones are e85 compatible but didnt get a definite answer on them being submersible, went to my local Oreilys auto parts last night and ordered the ones i need. Picked them up today at noon and went to work on them, Ill list the part numbers below for future reference.

5/16” submersible fuel line (Gates hose part # 27093)
3/8” submersible fuel line (Gates hose part # 27097)

We got power!!!

Finally after a long deep sleep the most hated and unreliable Odyssey batt held juice. Redid the power wire with a new BWD 2gauge Heavy Duty - Type SGR/SAEJ1127 cable. It was a PITA to route but had to get done, after the fusebox relocation and what not i needed to knock this out and verify my car has power and everything still works.
Pat on the back for myself.

Yes i have the rear diffuser with a tray that covers fuel tank on back.

I have seen that setup too but not many ppl go that route due to DD and or not being used for the function of it.

I will not have a desire to change battery at the moment to no, odyssey ftw

okay where did u get the 70 mm from?

Between about 50 to 70mm down from the top of the valve cover corner, on the side of the tower, there is a little bump out where the ac line bracket bolts in. I think your pic shows a small reflection of it in the center of where you drew the outline. It is the closest point between the two.

The top corner to the closest point of the tower is about 45mm.

Thought by removing an inch off the pcv port off would have probably cleared a M to AN fitting and a 90degree but it would still be too tight of a fitment, so that was a no go.

Hey Monj, you planning on wrapping some heat sheath on those fuel lines coming out of the surge tank?

Are you not worried of the fuel boiling inside the lines being so close to your exhaust?

Well fellas the ep3 is back on the roads again, better, stronger, faster, and mainly with a fairly new motor thats gonna need its adequate break in. So far i have clocked in 200+ miles and once i hit 500 im due for my first oil change. So far the car is hella fun to drive and the shifter is a day n night difference, i cant stress enough how much better and precise the shifting is, just like a racekare!!!
Im very gratefull for the one person that took time out of his life, family to come to TX and take care of me and 19dc5, with out his help and knowledge i dont know where my car would stand at this very moment in all honesty.

Brian (Speedlab) thanks man for doing what you did for us.

So as decided im going to take my time and do things rite this time, i want this motor to last, i want to enjoy my car as much as i can and not be down for repairs, but if i am one day, or a week, let it be for upgrades!

As far as TX2k14, mothernature fucked us over badd, wett streets and FWD FTL, so i take this as a blessing more than anything, thing, events happen for a reason. Other than that ill continue to update you guys/gals as the progress goes, ill snap pics and videos of the development on the motor as it breaks in more, gotta learn to walk before you can run, rite?

Well it is a bit complex to explain. I honestly just sent the plastic pc that sits in the floor to my tuner, and he fabbed up a steel boxto fit the shifter flat on it, and once he got here on Fri he did all the work for me, i just bought the stuff and yes, so last night i just finished modding the plastic trim where the middle cupholders go, and viola it fits perfect

Getting the front fenders rolled and pulled, achieved a 1in pull successfully.

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3712/13655458154_114cc57d3b_c.jpg

Was only able to pull the front left side, due to a lug key stripped the lug and will have to get it broken off. But its immediately noticeable, car rubs only on the passenger side when 2 deep, if i'm riding solo, hardly does.

Got this a couple days ago, been arrogant to share, will be mating it up with the K2ND mid-pipe here soon.

VIBRANT TPV TURBO Muffler

- TPV TURBO Universal Mufflers are designed to withstand the unique demands of high flowing, forced induction powered vehicles.

- Feature Vibrant's "True Straight Through" perforated internals for unrestricted flow and maximum horsepower.

- These mufflers are densely packed with our premium multi-layered sound absorption materials, helping produce a low, deep exhaust tone.

- Exposed TIG welds at every seam for maximum weld durability and aggressive looks.

Clutch slipped 2 months old

USAF EP3
05-29-2014, 10:29 AM
Slipped? What does it sound like when you try to disengage the clutch?

Remember, I had that exact same clutch kit a year ago. I still have it too, replaced with a brand new disc and throw out bearing. I never reinstalled it cause it was a heavy bitch to daily in.

monjarassi
05-29-2014, 11:03 AM
It works fine driving around, but once in wot and it sees 12lbs it shakes rhe whole car bad and the rpms fly while the mph don't

USAF EP3
05-29-2014, 10:17 PM
Damn bro, that stinks. What happened with mine was the clutch engaged super hard on the input shaft of the mainshaft and bent the splines. Then the splines on the clutch disc itself grinded off and I had no clutch engagement or disengagement.

Maybe the disc got too hot and glazed over? I know these types of clutches there's no specified break-in period so I'm not sure why yours would slipped all of a sudden.

05-30-2014, 08:45 AM

USAF EP3

But I put 750 miles on it before tuning

Yea I wouldn't know what to tell you...:mfrown: Mine gave me about 6,000 or more miles before it shit on me. The disc had plenty of meat left too.

I'd sell you my spare one for a super ephatch member hook up price, but I'd prefer if you called the vendor you bought the kit from and try and get a hold of Competition Clutch before you do anything else.

They say they don't warranty their 'race-spec' items but I bitched and moaned enough that all I had to do was pay about $60 in shipping and they gave me a new clutch disc and pay another $65 for a new throw-out bearing. I would try that route first before considering buying another replacement or buying mine.

Got the call i been waiting for, machine shop was done and ready to give back my stuff.
The shop met my expectations and had a fast turn around, would've been faster if the crank situation hadn't happened.
For any locals in need of machine work, no matter how big or small the job might be, i highly recommend them to you.

Westside Performance & Machine
9100 Emnora Ln, Houston, TX 77080
(713) 465-7996

I had them do the following:
Bore the crank .5 over
Hot tank it
Polish & balance crankshaft (with Flywheel & PP)
Resurface flywheel

Now onto the pix!!

Hey bro. Sorry for thread jack just wanted to give u an update. My buddy came down to give it a look. We put a screw driver to the motor and everything sounds normal. We gave it gas to listen inside everything is normal. He did what he called a load test. He put the e brake up and let off the clutch slowly in gear. Again everything is normal. Fucking stumped. Car runs 100% normal.

Unplugged each injector no knocks. Took a stethoscope and listened for knock ,everything seems normal. I'm glad to rule out its not the motor. We went for a ride everything seems normal. I'm just gona have to see if it gets worse Caus I have no f'ing clue what it is. Thanks for ur help

Time to get serious and do what i should have a long time ago, having the turbo open to the elements has been bothering me and since i had a close encounter recently i dont feel the necesity of taking any chances no more.
Went to my local PepBoys SpeedShop and scooped up some goodies to get-er-done.
(excuse my welding)

Purchased the following:
4in 90 degree coupler
4in short straight pipe
4in 45 degree elbow

Will have the straight and 45 elbow welded together and go purchase the final pc, air filter. Enjoy!

Well turbo intake is officially done, picked up a temp filter while the shorty K&N one arrives sometime next week.
Also added a autometer water temp gauge after really knowing how bad the oem one on the cluster sucks.

Thats Looks good monj... Dont be surprised if you feel like you lost a little haha... When I took off the filter I picked up another 15whp, thats how much the filter restricts the flow. In order to limit the loss you will have to run a big high flow air filter. I plan on running that metal mesh air filter since my ep is not my daily.

But back to the subject .... I LIKEY A LOT haha
