Engine oil leak: VTEC solenoid?

Hi, I have a 2005 Si with 78k on it. Has an oil leak that starts pretty high up so I put on a new valve cover gasket first. It still leaks, looks like the VTEC solenoid or close to it. My question is does the solenoid itself leak or it usually just the gasket/o-ring where it mounts to the head?

Can the valve cover leak even when new, are there any tricks to getting a good seal other than a dab of RTV in the corners?

Just stumbled across this. I had the same issue. Sure you could try to just replace the figure 8 O-ring inside of the solenoid but I just did the whole thing as a precautionary measure. Seems to have done the trick, the old O-ring was destroyed. Got one from Carid.com
