Sorry if the topic has come up before, but I just learned this car exists (sort of) in a 4-door version.

I just wonder if anyone has ever taken the time to convert one to Si (or Type-R) specs.

That is an EU3. People have converted them to Type R specs in other countries. Of course, like all things cool, we didnt get them here. The dash boards are the same as ours. and I am pretty sure all the front end parts are the same body wise. Suspension wise they are the same as ep3/em/dc5 stuff.

Since it has a longer wheelbase, I will go ahead and assume that they can be made to handle better than our shorter 2 door version.

That is definitely possible, I would love to import one of these, but alas, we dont get nothing cool here.

What makes you think this?

Front wheel drives have trouble transferring weight to the rear, shorter wheelbases make transferring weight easier. A short wheelbase like the eg6 (99.2) does better on super tight tracks, but when speeds get higher it becomes less stable and oversteer occurs more suddenly and is harder to recover from; the same as with all cars. The ek9's longer wheelbase (103.9) is more stable at high speed, but doesn't turn as well at slow speeds. The dc2 is half way between at 101.2, so understeer and stability fall in between the ek9 and eg6. The dc2 is the fastest of those three, which may be why honda chose to make the wheelbase 101.2 on ep3's and dc5's aswell. Preludes are longer, but usually not as fast, especially when tuned closer to stock. Wheelbases can be made shorter with ff than with fr without compromising stability because you have more control during oversteer.

ep3's and dc5's require nearly full throttle all the time to keep them balanced as it is. Transferring weight in the longer wb eu3 would require either placing more weight in the rear, or adding a lot more power, which presents a new set of problems, since that would increase front tire loads.
