Ive had my Si for about 2 weeks now, shes got about 900 miles on her and im getting about 200-230 miles on a tank doing mostly hwy driving, 75-80mph. Im not babying her but not running her hard either. Wondering if this is something that with time will work up to the quoted 26-30 mpg. Has anyone else noticed this and with time did it get better...BTW running 91-93 octane.

Your gas mileage will get better with time and more miles. I wouldn't worry bout the premium gas just use what the factory recommends to break in the car. On my trip back to Virginia Tech from Hampton Roads I got about 270 miles on one tank. I was rolling 70-80 the whole time and I have about 2,500 miles on the car. Also, it burnt a little bit of oil which was expected. The other thing I noticed was that the first half of the tank went down really fast.

Its not that the first half of the tank goes faster, dude, its just your fuel gauge. Your fuel gauge is calibrated to get to "E" with 3 or maybe more gallons to spare.

200-230 miles per tank...that doesn't compare with 26-30 mpg....how many mpg do you get?

fsugatorbait,
It could be the cold weather, too. If it's as cold in CT as it has been here in NY for the last few weeks (twenties, teens, and a few single digit temps) your engine will compensate for the very cold air coming into the engine by adding more fuel to the mix. I have 11,500 miles on my car right now and was averaging 29 mpg in the summer and fall with an occasional 33 mpg on those 300+ mile trips. I just filled up this afternoon and this last tank gave me 26 mpg with the same driving habits that I've had since getting the Si in June. Your mileage will improve into the summer.

Food for thought.

P.S. at 1:30 pm today, it was 10 degrees outside. 10 FREAKIN' DEGREES!!!

Being new car and all im still getting used to the guage and when it tells you your on E...When i fill up it takes about 10.5 gallons, on a 13 gallon tank, at an empg of 21.5...this is on mostly hwy driving...Ive noticed that the mileage greatly increases around 60 mph, but who drives 60 on the hwy...wondering if because of the close gear ratio, pulling apprx. 4000 rpm at 80, and the weight of the car would have anything to do with it?

I think you are right about 60 mph - its definitely the sweet spot for gas mileage.

guys are u sure is not the octane problem?, coz last time i tried 2 full tank of 89.5 octane it, i got an extra 80 km, i think is probably the octane, coz when the first time i had my car i run like 500km which i think was 87 octane, now with 94 octane i get around 380km

Ever since i bought my car new with 200 miles on it I have always gotten in the neighborhood of 330-365miles per tank with 87 octane!!! It fluctuates depending on my driving though

28.5 MPG on my last fillup, mostly highway driving around 60-70 MPH & some city miles. My car has about 800 miles since I got it 2 weeks ago.

When I first got the car it was the same around 220-230 miles ( with prem.) When I put in my intake the gas went even quicker, making me switch to mid-grade. When I got the new exhaust and more miles (7,500) I get a whopping 390 or better, but that's also driving a little on the gas light.

first 2 tanks out of the car...when dealer filled it up and me after that...87 octane, then 89 octane(w/10% ethanol) i got avg. 315 miles from full to light. Now i have intake, its winter and i'm using 91 octane and i'm only getting around 280 mpt(ank). I think it DOES really depend on ur mods and the outside temperature.

hmmm...maybe you should shift earlier?

I think you need to shift earlier too dood. Think of gas consumption on the basis of how high your rpms are. If you're on the highway going 3500 rpm at 100kms(60mph) and 4500 at 130kms(80mph) then of course your gas is gonna disappear quicker!

On one of my first fill ups in my new EP(+/- 500 mi) I got 27 mpg...but then again, I was drivin her nice...breakin her in...but I was excited getting 27 and knowing that it's only gonna get better from here!! I love my EP!

Yeah but its all good, it keeps the same question from being asked again and saves server space. We all know how well the server does when over worked. ;)

Don't forget to add your gas mileage to this thread (http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=16416&highlight=gas) :D

hahaha, i just filled up with 12.xx gallons last night after driving only 265 miles; only 22 mpg :(. But I guess its what I get for driving my car like its a go kart :D.

I thought I drove pretty easy on the EP this week. It's like 25 degrees in Chicago. I got 220 miles for a 10 gallons. 22mpg...that's just disgusting.

So is it better to use 87 than 93? I just figured since it cost more it was better for the car... that was probably a bad assumtion?

I have been putting premium in my car since i got it. I usually shift around 3k-3500rpm and my milage is around 25-26 usually. 90% of my trips are less than 3 or 4 miles so I figured that might lower milage. I've got about 6k miles on my car now, should I switch to 87? thanks.

I use 87 octane and I get about 270-300 miles before the E light comes on (and there's still gonna be an extra 3 gallons left). Of course...I shift at 2500 unless I'm trying to match traffic speed or something.

i get 22mpg too.. driving like a granny.

i now have around...a lil over 20.000 on the car and i always use 87 which's still higher than what the manual recommends!?
anyway I redline it everyday and trust me, when the car was new, it'll drink your gas up like it's V12 machine that its meant to do. but well thankfully i see it's getting better and i get about 22~28 when the light comes on(depend on how i drive), and like everybody else say you still got extra 3 gallon to go.
i don't really trust the gauge, cuz at some point, it'll go down real quick and stay there for a while or blah blah blah. i'll just say i can't really depend on that, except when the light comes on, ...yeah that's when you have last blast of 3 gallon to vtech-ing with. hahaha. and calculate appox 22~28mpg from there.

oh BTW, i usually drive around 80mph on the freeway and yea the rpm seems kinda high remaining at a bit over 4k rpm, but i guess that's just how it is regard on short gearing, cuz when i had Celica GT, it'd do exact 4k at 80mph. i thought that was high. but well, the engine of ours seems pretty much enjoy the high-pitch hum like i do.

the way you approximate your mileage blows.. all you have to do is.. get the miles you got from that tank and divide it by the gallons of gas u just put in...

well,

I have about 2.2k miles on her....barely broken in. I get crappy milage also. about 22 mpg. I don't drive too crazy either. I guess we'll ahve to wait a bit more until its fully broken in??

hey, with all this fuss with mpg, those of us who are dreaming about a swap...our mpg will get even worst right???

shiishhh...

Hey fellas,

03 ep3 12400 km/7705 miles on her running on 91 octane with Injen sri.
On a trip to Calgary from Edmonton just yesterday, I got 300km/186 miles at half tank with the ac on, going a constant 130km/h. I was getting crappy milage when I first bought the ep, but the more km i put in her, the better milage I'm getting. I'll soon be completing my i/h/e setup and I'm not sure how this will affect gas consumption.

CTR wid 12k on clock 300 miles just before fuel light comes on with 98 octaine fuel

and about 270 miles from a tank just before light comes on with standard 95 octaine fuel
