torque solutions shifter bushing issue

I was trying to install my torque solution shifter bushings but I was having a really hard time getting the C-clip supplied with the kit to get into place. If I push the bushings in, they do not go in far enough that the guide for the clip is accessible for me to push it in.

Has anyone run into this issue before and can see what I may be doing wrong?

are these shifter base bushings or shifter cable bushings? something else? pics might help. never heard of torque solutions
